Disney may have grown relatively quiet after a reported backlash over Florida’s so-called “Don’t Say Gay” bill, but the company isn’t losing steam where LGBT support is concerned.
The Mouse just published its animated “Mouse” video LightyearIt received less than stellar box-office acclaim and many might speculate that the same-sex kiss was one of its main problems. After Ron DeSantis’s showdown, Disney cut the scene and reinstalled.
The animated movie’s next project could have more Rainbow glow than any other. Strange WorldThe book will also include gay teens romance.
Matthieu Saghezchi — Emmy-winning animation production designer — caught a glimpse of the movie while attending France’s Annecy 2022 International Film Festival.
Matthieu sent a tweet with historic news and a Pride flag:

It’s boy-on-boy:
“The scene describes the son being very shy in front of his boy crush, and his dad comes in and says, ‘So nice to meet you! my son talks about you all the time,’ and further embarrasses his son. Very cute.”
The content is confirmed by the variety:
Three sequences were shown by Walt Disney Strange World.Ethan is seen flirting with Diazo, his heartthrob, while school friends watch, laughing and teasing him. Much to Ethan’s chagrin, his dad Searcher soon joins in, embarrassing his son with an overeager show of acceptance.
Return to Lightyear, The Independent notes it was banned “in 14 Middle Eastern and Asian countries, including Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Kuwait, Egypt, Indonesia, and Malaysia. The film is unlikely to release in China as well, according to the South China Morning Post.”
After a disgruntled Disney-Pixar letter, the gay-kiss was reinstated.
Variety provides an example:
Pixar has seen beautiful stories with diverse characters come back to life after Disney corporate reviews. We are not allowed to create LGBTQIA+ content, even if it was the solution for the discriminatory laws in the world.
Pixar might be happier with this. Strange World.
Either way, it’s certainly far from Disney’s first foray into #Pride promotion:

Strange WorldIt will be difficult to win back the conservatives that have given up. LightyearDue to the onscreen romance. But perhaps the company has finally made peace with what audience it wishes to entertain — and which crowd to which it will no longer cave.
The film — which the Daily News calls a “refreshing nod to inclusivity” — stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Gabrielle Union, Lucy Liu, Dennis Quaid and Jaboukie Young-White.
