Dipsology: Beyond the Basics – the Russian Vodka Boycott Made Easier – Opinion

You can ease your anxiety during these difficult times by lifting spirits.

There has been no shortage of reactions to the invasion of Ukraine by Vladamir Putin’s troops. A growing number of Russian-owned companies and organisations are pulling out of or pulling down Russian products is one of these reactions. This trend has been exacerbated by the increasing news that Russian vodka is being pulled from bars and stores, as well as being banned from certain states.

While this noble cause is admirable, its impact is unlikely to be that significant. Although it’s symbolic, the move isn’t entirely worthless. It is because of the reality in vodka industry.

A Sober View of the Vodka Marketplace

The first thing to do is analyse the segments in the vodka sales industry. It is the most limiting diversion and loss of quality and flavor that vodka has. Vodka is by its nature has the lowest amount of flavor. The competition among brands in distillation results in a product that’s smoother, but also tends to lose some flavor.

When a brand is able to match the multiple-distilled levels, or even exceed the quality of import brands, the reality is that it’s achieving the right level. As it stands, the U.S. vodka market is dominated by domestic brands, comprising over 50 percent of vodka sold here and led by Texas-distilled Tito’s, out of Austin. The Russians are not far behind. The Russians barely make it to the top of the spirits sales lists.

You will find two Swedish brands, one French and one Dutch brand on this list. The total vodka import sales amount to $1.4 billion. Russian vodka only makes $18.5million in annual sales. Putin has been impacted by the loss of hundreds of billions of dollars in cash infusions. Therefore, it is likely that we will not be able to switch to our old mixers.

There is still a larger political effort, and it isn’t all futile. Pegging labels from Ivan Drago is the first task. Smirnoff is not the right choice, because it’s a U.S. product. Stoli, another Russian favorite, is now being made in Latvia due to its mysterious provenance following the collapse of the Soviet Union.

The Ukrainian support is clearly displayed on the homepage of the corporation website.

Which vodkas do you send to the Gulag? Russian Standard is the most well-known, as it’s a trusted and affordable brand. Others on the list of the best-selling brands are Beluga, Hammer & Sickle, Imperia, Mamont, Organika, and ZYR.

Yet, it is possible to support resistance

You can switch vodkas made in Ukraine to replace your Russian one or support the cause for the invading people.

Nemiroff — They are one of the most loved brands from Ukraine. One time they sponsored the Ultimate Fighting Championships.

Khor Platinum — It is very affordable for a brand of decent quality. It should not be difficult to find it priced under $20

Kruto Original — This recipe is made from an ancient wheat recipe that was grown in Ukraine.
