DeSantis Announces Legislature Will Consider Ending Disney’s ‘Special Tax and Governing Jurisdiction’ Status – Opinion

In this episode of “The Battle Between the Woke Mouse and the Awesome Florida Governor,” the governor kicks it up a notch or two against the mouse, although it remains unclear if the mouse himself (I assume “he” is still a “he”) is indeed woke, or is being held against his will a by a super-evil overlord.

As RedState reported on April 1, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) floated the idea of changing Florida law to revoke Disney’s preferred tax status in the state. That is what he meant. DeSantis declared Tuesday that the state legislature We will be looking at a proposal to eliminate Disney’s special tax and governing jurisdiction in the governor’s latest battle, as reported by Breitbart, after the megacorporation announced its opposition to the Parental Rights in Education Bill he signed into law in March.

Today I’m announcing that we have expanded the call to what they can do. [the Florida State Legislature]This week they’ll be examining the Congressional Map. However, they will also be considering terminating all special districts in Florida that existed prior to 1968.

[Cheers and aplause.]

The Reedy Creek Improvement District governs the area on which Walt Disney World Resort is built. It extends to 39.06 mi from the Orange County and Osceola county boundaries in Florida.

At issue for conservative Floridians are a myriad of woke announcements from Disney, most recently, as noted by Breitbart, the company is pushing to incorporate “many, many, many LGBTQIA+ characters in its stories.” Disney’s latest idiotic concern rests with Tinker Bell and Captain Hook being “potentially problematic.”

DeSantis thanked the House Speaker and Senate President for “stepping up” their efforts on the issue.

I want to thank Speaker (Chris) Sprowls (R) and (State) Senator (Wilton) Simpson (president of the Florida Senate) for  … stepping up and making sure that we make the termination of those special districts happen, which I think is very important.

As I’ve said before, Ron DeSantis Drips steady executive resolve and determination — a quality sorely missed at the upper echelons of American government for far too long — for which we continue to pay, dearly.

So how have proverbial “everyday Americans” reacted to Disney’s self-immolation in wokification?

As RedState reported earlier this month, according to a recent survey, almost seven in ten Americans are upset with Disney’s embrace of the LGBTQIA+ movement, and no longer want to do “business” with the company and will instead seek out “family-friendly alternatives.”

The mouse could still be held against its will. If that’s the case, let’s hope Mickey, Minnie, Donald Duck, Goofy, Tinker Bell, Captain Hook, and the rest of the gang someday soon go over the wall — and escape forever the madness of wokification.

Then? They can return to providing America’s children with the wholesome entertainment that parents for decades have trusted, counted on, and loved.
