Democrats in Congress are Helping Liz Cheney Ahead of Wyoming Primary – Opinion

Wyoming’s primary election will take place Tuesday August 16. Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney has been fighting Harriet Hageman, Trump’s endorsed candidate for the presidency. Cheney has requested Wyoming Democrats change their party affiliation to vote for her. Democratic donors gave funds to Cheney and still the GOP Congresswoman is in a tough spot. Cheney has gone to great lengths to ensure she is able to win the primary.

Two House Democrats asked Democratic members of their party to change to Republican temporarily to vote in favor Cheney. In online advertisements, Congressmen Tom Malinowski and Dean Phillips (D–NJ) supported Cheney.

Malinowski stated in a Facebook advertisement:

“Liz Cheney and I don’t agree on everything … But we’re on the same side today, fighting for a country where we settle our differences by voting, not violence … Wyoming Democrats can put country over party too by registering to vote for her in the Republican primary,”

Dean Phillips also stated this in a Facebook advert:

“You might be a little surprised that I’d be supporting Liz Cheney in her bid to continue representing Wyoming in the U.S. House, but principle must always come before politics, and nobody has shown more honor, integrity, and courage than she … So I ask you to please consider temporarily switching parties and voting for Liz Cheney on or by August 16th.”

Although it remains to see if Wyoming Democrats will register with Republicans and vote for Cheney, she seems determined that this could be the case.

Conservatives are divided on almost every issue, while leftists strongly disagree. However they appear to have a common view about Dick Cheney. So this tactic by Liz, airing her father’s ad on “Fox and Friends” and “Hannity,” will likely be for nothing.

Dick Cheney is one of the last people who should be speaking about “truth” after all the lies he told during his tenure as Vice President under George W. Bush. Liz brought everyone out, Dick Cheney, Democratic donors and Democratic colleagues. It might not be enough, because every poll indicates that she is trailing large. Democrats and Independents will need to register and vote as Republicans for her. She has a very slim chance of winning.

Cheney could still get a job on CNN if she loses the primary. This is a common trend among politicians who have lost races but work for mainstream media. Although she teased the possibility of a run in 2024, unless Democrats vote for her, there is no way to get any chance of Cheney winning a GOP presidential primary.
