The Democratic House Select Committee for Jan. 6 Riot at U.S. Capitol Building is using a former news executive from network media to make these hearings as exciting as possible. They seem to believe a bit of production value and pizazz can rejuvenate the riot into something that could be used as a political weapon to minimize the damage they will receive in November’s congressional elections
Axios reported that “James Goldston — former president of ABC News, and a documentary storyteller who ran ‘Good Morning America’ and ‘Nightline’ — has joined the committee as an unannounced adviser.”
A source told the news outlet that Goldston “is busily producing Thursday’s 8 p.m. ET hearing as if it were a blockbuster investigative special” and that he “plans to make it raw enough so that skeptical journalists will find the material fresh, and chew over the disclosures in future coverage.”
It’s a bit amusing that Axios seems to believe there are “skeptical” media activists to persuade on this matter. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that most members of the activist media are salivating at the possibility of using the hearings to help their comrades in the Democratic Party.
Goldston’s role will be, in part, to “draw the eyeballs of Americans who haven’t followed the ins and outs of the Capitol riot probe” according to the report. The production will use “a mix of live witnesses and pre-produced video,” “official White House photographs from Jan. 6, 2021, that have never been seen publicly,” and clips of many of the committee’s depositions.
This means that Democrats will do everything possible to ensure this production is a success.
Thursday’s hearings will be the first in a series of productions weaponizing the riot against Republicans in the leadup to November’s elections. The first one will air at night; the remainder will broadcast throughout the day.
The article acknowledges that Republicans “will argue that the 1/6 committee — which consists of seven Democrats plus Republicans Liz Cheney of Wyoming and Adam Kinzinger of Illinois — is just out to get former President Trump.”
After the initial hearing, cable news stations have booked interviews with high-profile Republican lawmakers.
It will not make as much impact as a grain if sand is thrown into the Atlantic Ocean, even all the publicity it receives from Democrats. Many have pointed out that Americans don’t complain about January 6 when they eat breakfast. They are focused on gas prices, inflation, education, healthcare, and other issues that are actually impacting people’s lives.
These hearings were a desperate attempt by Democrats to gain political points in order to avoid the negative attention that will be coming at them during the midterm elections. The public has rejected them because they have not found anything to run for, and there are many failures in the Biden government. It does not look like they’ll find a way out.
