This is something we can be certain never happened. Former Democrat US Rep. Michael “Ozzie” Myers has pled guilty to multiple charges related to a scheme to stuff ballot boxes for Democrat candidates between 2014 and 2018.
Myers’ past is not rosy. He was expelled from Congress because he accepted bribes. Apparently, he didn’t learn his lesson and has been running a ring of corruption for decades.
Philadelphia’s former Congressman pleaded guilty Monday in connection to the fraudulently filling of ballot boxes to support Democratic candidates during 2014 and 2018.
According to federal prosecutors, the former Democratic U.S. Rep. pleaded guilty for violating electoral law, conspiracy, bribery, and obstruction.
For his defense lawyers, messages were left asking for comment.
In a sentencing memo dated Friday, federal prosecutors said his “criminal efforts were generally, although not exclusively, directed at securing election victories for local judicial candidates running for Philadelphia’s Court of Common Pleas or Municipal Court who had employed Myers as a ‘political consultant.’”
According to the report Myers was able to bribe a Philidelphia Judge of Elections to vote for his candidates. This time, he chose all Democrats. These bribes were worth hundreds of thousands dollars. Myers was also involved in an elaborate scheme to encourage people to vote for particular candidates. Lastly, that judge also cast votes for candidates who weren’t even on the ballot.
Whether those judges are themselves being prosecuted isn’t mentioned in the DOJ press release that Fox is basing its report on. It’s probable that they were willing to testify against Myers and may have received some kind of immunity. Given the seriousness of accepting bribes, I hope so.
Naturally, this response will simply be “it happened before the 2020 election.” However, anyone who believes this to be an isolated incident in Philidelphia would be as ignorant as their fellow naivety. Because of recent, possible illegal changes in election rules including mass mail-in votes, ballot stuffing will be much easier in 2020 than it was during past elections. It is absurd to think that anything untoward happened in the 2014-2018 period of ballot stuffing. Anyone who’s not completely ignorant will readily admit it.
The major blue areas are plagued by electoral issues and their leaders have no incentive for reform. For the foreseeable future, Republicans will have to run campaigns that run around corruption that isn’t going anywhere.
