The interview ended, and the network distributed it as an example of Western intellectuals calling for better relations between the superpowers.

Chinese propagandists promoted the Friedman interview around the globe, even in the United States. China Daily ran advertorials featuring the Friedman interview on Foreign Policy’s website. This magazine is a worldwide affairs publication that is read by American diplomats. Foreign Policy declined to comment.
