California has been aggressively working to eliminate all gasoline-powered vehicles by 2035. It might seem like a huge deal for the network. But you’d be wrong. ABC and NBC replied with a collective yawn Wednesday night and Thursday morning. They allowed 23 seconds and 30 seconds each. But that’s still better than CBS. The network avoided California’s radical move, skipping it on the CBS Evening NewsAnd CBS Mornings.
You can find the Today show, co-host Craig Melvin seemed indifferent to the big change:
California regulators will vote on today’s ground-breaking rule to ban gasoline cars from being sold in California. This plan, expected to pass by California regulators, will require that all new passenger cars and trucks be emission-free vehicles by 2035. It would be possible to still sell used gasoline-powered cars. Experts predict that the proposal could have ripple effects with many other states who follow California’s lead.
That bolded sentence above is another way of saying that the large state is attempting to end gas cars for the rest of the nation as well. The 30-second mention on the two-hour-long Today show was the totality of the NBC coverage.
World News Tonight anchor David Muir on Wednesday didn’t even bother to mention California’s attempt to set policy for the whole nation. Here’s his 23-second brief:
California looks set to continue moving forward with its plans to end gasoline-powered car sales by next decade. Tomorrow’s vote by California’s Air Resources Board will determine whether to ban the sale of gasoline cars within 10 years. According to new regulations, 35 percent must be zero emission by 2026 for all new vehicles in the state. This is only four years away.
Fox News only explained some of these red flags Thursday. You can read more on Fox and Friends, Carly Shimkus noted, “House Republicans warning of the possible dangers of a push towards electric vehicles, saying that such a change could strengthen Beijing. Setting market share of Chinese companies in the EV battery industry.”
The burying of radical California’s attempt to end gas-powered cars were sponsored on NBC by Hyundai and on ABC by Breyers ice cream. To let them know your thoughts, click the links.
