CNN might be the most famous example of what to not do in relation to almost all things. CNN has gone from being a trusted news source and one that is watched regularly, to becoming a swarm of biased reporting and employees who are prone to scandal.
Ratings are the best indicator of the network’s decline. They have been falling for some time, and the new numbers clearly show how far it has fallen in popularity.
The New York Post reported that 90 percent of the network’s once-famous viewers lost interest in the news station after 2021.
CNN’s ratings took a nosedive by a massive 90 percent both overall and in the all-important demographic coveted by advertisers in the first week of the new year.
The Jeff Zucker-led cable news network averaged just 548,000 viewers during the week of Jan. 3 — a major drop from the nearly 2.7 million viewers for the same week in 2021, according to Nielsen ratings.
CNN was faced with issue after issue of failure. CNN failed to draw viewers on January 6. CNN tried to make this a national day for remembrance.
These scandals are on top of the horrifying ones that included the firing of Chris Cuomo as host after it was revealed that he had far greater involvement in scandal surrounding sexual assault allegations against Andrew Cuomo (ex-Gov. of New York).
This is in addition to the arrest of one of Cuomo’s producers who was arrested for allegedly raping a 9-year-old girl, along with the arrest of a producer for Jake Tapper who solicited nude pictures of a child along with lude text messages. After Rick Saleeby, a CNN producer, resigned, this arrest was made. They kept that information confidential until they were forced to disclose it.
CNN falsely attacked Joe Rogan for his Ivermectin use, spreading rumors that Rogan was using horse dewormer. This was an attempt to make a story that Rogan was dangerous to his listeners and that Rogan is a misinformator.
Between the 90 percent drop in viewership and the numerous scandals, it’s likely to put CNN President Jeff Zucker in the hot seat, as the network has done horribly under his direction. CNN’s parent company, WarnerMedia, is set to merge with Discovery this year, putting Zucker’s fate in question, but industry experts say it doesn’t look good.
“Jeff isn’t the supreme ruler anymore as was made clear when they made him fire Cuomo. He’s become a liability with his embarrassing defense of liberal activists like Cuomo, Don Lemon and Jim Acosta,” an industry executive told Fox News.
CNN needs to be broken. The question will be whether it’s Zucker or the network.
