CNN’s Louis: Jackson’s GOP Critics Are Against Civil Rights ‘Progress’

You can find more information here New Day Saturday, CNN analyst Errol Louis suggested that Republicans are opposed to and bitter about the acquisition of civil rights for African Americans as he reacted to Republican resistance to Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s appointment to the Supreme Court.

Boris Sanchez, CNN’s co-host on CNN began his interview by asking viewers for their reaction to Jackson’s confirmation. Louis, a veteran journalist who was also a former New York politician and liberal in New York, declared that Jackson’s appointment was “a truly remarkable accomplishment not just for her and her families but for all of America.”

Sanchez continued by noting the fact that few Republicans applauded and some left immediately after confirmation was voted, Louis said they were like “dinosaurs heading back into the swamp”.

He suggested then that Judge Jackson’s Republican critics are a backlash towards the Civil Rights Movement. They oppose progress like Judge Jackson being appointed.

This is in some senses the fulfilment of the Civil Rights Movement, as I said. Counter movements are born out of movement. Some people are unhappy with the country’s progress.Their visions or opinions are very different. Want to take things backwards or freeze them right where they are. That faction includes Lindsey Graham, Rand Paul and, of course, Josh Hawley.. You know what? We know their names, but the history books, I believe, will just notice in passing. People who were against the progress of the countryAnd were soon forgotten.

BORIS SANCHEZ: Let’s start with history. Let me know what your reactions were to Justice Brown Jackson’s emotional speech.

ERROL LOUIS CNN POLITICAL COMMENTATOR: Hello Boris. As everyone else, or as many people as possible, I took a lot pride in the events that had occurred. She said her family had gone from segregation and the Supreme Court in one generation. That’s truly meaningful. It’s been a very meaningful generation.

To me, this is the essence of the Civil Rights Movement. Affirmative action, which was the final phase, was meant to give people such as Ketanji Brown, Jackson the freedom to reach their potential, regardless of what society may place on them. You can see it all. This was a remarkable feat not just for her, but also for her entire family and the United States. It’s a very happy time.

SANCHEZ During her confirmation, it was clear that not all Republicans wanted to be there for that moment. Mitt Romney was only GOP Senator to continue clapping at the end of the vote. A few GOP Senators showed up later than expected. Lindsey Graham forgot a tie. His vote was not cast. Do you think that is too much? What do you make of these incidents?

LOUIS: Well, let me correct you. Lindsey Graham did not forget his tie. It was on his neck, but he removed it. Without a tie, the Senate’s rules forbid you from being on the floor. He cast his no vote in the cloakroom and pointed his thumb downward. This kind of foolishness is what we have come to expect from Washington today. This is part of Washington’s problems. The last bit of disrespect, as you can see, was when people applauded after the vote. A bunch of them rose up, and they sort of stormed out from the chamber. The swamp was where dinosaurs went back in search of food.. These are the things you can expect.

People who were against the progress of the countryThey quickly vanished.
