CNN’s Coates Warns of Legal Chaos & Civil War Over Roe Decision

On Thursday, immediately after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, finished her speech reacting to the historic Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v Wade, CNN’s Right Now gathered their panel together to react to what Roe’s demise means for the country.

Erica Hill was the fill-in anchor and asked Laura Coates her reactions. Right out of the gate, she wailed that “It’s going to be legal chaos.” “You’re going to have interstate battles about how you’re going to enforce these laws let alone the very obvious notion that as the majority opinion stated that apparently stare decisis is not a straight jacket.”

She huffed that “there have been wrongly decided decisions, and the court should be able to be nimble to do so. However, the foundations for their decision are not so clear. Why? There are 50 years worth where people, that means me, my mother, my grandmother, my great grandmother’s generation all able to have a right that we woke up this morning having and no longer have because the Supreme Court has decided there’s no real right for women to have those choices at the moment of conception.”

According to Coates, “as a prosecutor” she couldn’t “help but wonder, how do you intend for these laws to be enforced.” Referring to the laws in conservative states banning or limiting abortions.

Coates did her best to whip the audience up into a frenzy by asking: “Is there no doctor-patient confidentially provision any longer?. What are you going to do in the courts that enforce laws? Is it possible to grant them access to medical records, or to question people at the clinic about someone’s period? The womb is actually the site of the so-called crime.”

Continuing on her rant she huffed that “more than 18 states by the end of the summer likely to have abortion wholly illegal but how does one enforce this with also taking into consideration one’s other privacy interests in the law. Legal chaos is what it will be. Don’t forget the civil and legal war. It will be impossible to truly carry out.”

Coates, along with the other leftist media, have spent much time since Roe to try and scare Americans into thinking that Roe would be overturned. This will make it seem like women are going to hell if Roe is not. They are about to find out the truth that this isn’t the case.

Each state will have the ability to create its own laws about abortion. “Legal chaos” and a “legal civil war” are what we had prior to Roe being overturned.

LAURA COATES: People thought it was clear when the draft legal opinion was released. There will be chaos in the legal system. There will be interstate disputes about how to enforce the laws. This is in addition to the obvious fact that stare decisis, as stated by the majority opinion, does not mean that a jacket can only be worn straight. That’s a quote from the majority opinion. Instead, the notion is that these ideas are not binding on you because you were able to differ from them. Now it’s true over the course of history there have been opinions that have been overturned Plessy v. Ferguson for example.

It has been wrongly determined decisions. The court should have the ability to rectify them. The reasons for their decision is not clear. Why? There are 50 years worth where people, that means me, my mother, my grandmother, my great grandmother’s generation all able to have a right that we woke up this morning having and no longer have because the Supreme Court has decided there’s no real right for women to have those choices at the moment of conception. Erica is a prosecutor. I have to wonder how you plan for the laws to be applied. Are there any doctor-patient confidentiality provisions? Is this what you want to see in the courts trying to enforce these laws? Will you allow them to see the medical records, or question people at the desk of the doctor or receptionist about someone’s period? Actually, it is the place of so-called crimes.
Any law to be applied would need to be intrusive to try to determine what happened. A number of prosecutors have stated that they won’t pursue prosecutions in these cases. However, you must wonder if it is possible to make the law and have trigger laws. It is likely that more than 18 states will make abortion illegal before the end of this summer. How can one ensure compliance while still respecting one’s privacy rights? Legal chaos is what it will be. Don’t forget the civil legal war. This will not be possible.
