CNN Opinion: Let’s Go Brandon Dad Deserves to Have Life Ruined

This idea of someone having their life destroyed because they made a silly joke is simply absurd. However, that is precisely what happened. CNNDean Obeidallah, an opinion columnist for SiriusXM radio hosted, argued in a recent column.

In a piece titled “You can’t troll the President with ‘Let’s go, Brandon’ and then play the victim”, Obeidallah argued that Jared Schmeck, 35-year-old Oregon father deserves whatever punishment the cancel culture tyrants want to inflict on him for the grave sin of saying “Let’s Go, Brandon” to President Joe Biden during a call on Christmas Eve.

Obeidallah summarized what happened that left the rest in an abyss.

Schmeck went one more by teasing the Bidens with this coded expression on Friday. As you can imagine, the father of four faces a flood of criticism after essentially dropping an equivalent to an “F-bomb” on Christmas Eve’s live special that was intended for families who want to follow Santa Claus.

Not surprisingly, Obeidallah described Schmeck’s practical joke as “despicable”, but he did defend his right to say it, noting that “our right to freedom of speech must be vigilantly protected, especially when speaking about political issues and our elected officials.”

Further proving that the left has no sense of humor, Obeidallah seemed to not understand why conservatives shifted from “F**k Joe Biden” to “Let’s Go, Brandon”, while at the same time admitting where it originated from. He also accused conservatives of the “cowardice of being PC when it comes to political insults”.

Towards the end of the piece, Obeidallah finally cut to the chase and mocked Schmeck for complaining about the threatening calls he’s received after his phone call with Biden:

Poor Schmeck. Apparently, he thinks he should be able to tell Biden to basically go f**k himself while on a family-friendly holiday call, but no one should be able to take issue with his actions.

Obeidallah continued to rant against Schmeck after that uncompassionate and juvenile paragraph.

That’s how freedom of expression works, sorry. To troll the president in order to seem to make other people happy you will be criticised. You don’t need criticism if you’re not thin enough. This is it.

This is actually how freedom of expression works. The freedom of speech allows you to express your beliefs without fear of reprisal or punishment. In fairness, he did write that didn’t have any “ill wishes towards Jared Schmeck.” While one sentence later, he wrote that he hoped no one tells him: “Let’s go, Jared!”
