CNN Cries ‘Fake News’ to Accurately Say Biden Has More Covid Deaths Than Trump

Every American Covid death is attributed to China. But it’s you’re going to try to parse out blame to a particular president, at least get the simple math right. CNN, Christmas Eve Newsroom fill-in host Boris Sanchez had some trouble doing that as he definitively claimed it was “fake news” to accurately say that more Americans have been killed by Covid under President Biden than former President Trump.

Sanchez’s false declaration came as a knee-jerk reaction to defend Biden from The Daily Wire’s Candace Owens, who made the accurate statement while interviewing Trump on December 21 (where he defended the effectiveness and safety of the vaccines):

TRUMP: They are all very, very good. Three of them were created in nine months. The process was estimated to take five to twelve years.

OWENS – Yet, many more people have been killed by Covid in this year’s election, according to Joe Biden.

TRUMP: That’s right.

“Fact is, her statement about the death rate under Donald Trump and Joe Biden was completely false.,” he swiftly proclaimed following the soundbite.

Now, the argument can be made that it’s unfair to compare numbers because neither is responsible for the pandemic and Biden was a new president so his number could only go up. But Sanchez argued that “those numbers are completely wrong” (though no numbers were presented in the clip), thus his argument was about math.

So let’s take a look at that.

Based on The New York Times, As of ChristmasAccording to the U.S. Census Bureau, there were 814891 Covid deaths. The Washington PostHas Deaths under Trump: 402,269. We can subtract 412,622 from the total number of deaths in Biden.

Sanchez was a good sport, though. His comments came on Christmas Eve. The TimesIs the Christmas day’s average number of deaths at 1,345. We can double this to add December 24, and then do simple math: 412 622 minus 2 690 gives us Biden’s death at 409 932 at the time of his remarks. He’s still wrong.

You can be generous and pretend that Owen meant what he said when Owen made his comment. So, if we multiply the death rate by 5 (6,725) and subtract from Biden, it puts him at 405,897. But that’s not the truth.

That last equation was very much in Sanchez’s favor. Because the death rate has slowly increased over these days, our Christmas death rate was a good choice.

BORIS SACHEZ: She made a statement that people would die under Donald Trump, but Joe Biden. These numbers are totally wrong so it’s false news.

Secondly, it’s very juicy because Candice Owen has been peddling nonsense – anti-vaccine nonsense online and to watch her face as the former President essentially says what we know that vaccines are effective; quite soothing. Ron, Ron! Why is this the case? Why is this happening?

RON BROWNSTEIN You see, while it is never too late for you to do right, the ex-President waited until concrete was really set amongst his base and more generally within the Republican Coalition.

These numbers and the contrast are amazing. According to Kaiser Family Foundation research, more than 90 percent of Democrats have been vaccinated. Only 60% of Republicans have been vaccinated, while over 60 percent are. It is much lower than that of Democrats who have been vaccinated and say that they will be boosted. As it is in 2020, the death rate in Trump-friendly countries is almost triple that in Biden friendly ones.

Look, I think the President – the former President is making what is a pretty obvious political pivot that he wants to take credit for the original development of the vaccines which he can. It seems he wants to be able to say that they gave everything to the Biden government to manage this, and then they lost the ball.

It is unlikely, however, that 240,000,000 people would get at least one shot. It required large mobilization and use of every federal asset. A bold use of federal power. It’s hard to imagine we’d have seen anything like that under a Trump presidency.
