MSNBC host Chris Hayes paid the price for making an awkward gesture while discussing impeachment on air Tuesday evening.
Speaking to guest Robert Litt, who served as General Counsel to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence under President Barack Obama, Hayes compared anticipation for the potential impeachment of President Donald Trump to popping a bottle of champagne.
“I sort of feel like we’re watching a champagne bottle being shaken and shaken and shaken,” he said. “At a certain point, the cork pops off and we all find out who this person is.”
Hayes’ analogy was accompanied by what internet humor outlet Digg called an “unintentionally hilarious” gesture:

The “All In with Chris Hayes” host’s vigorous hand motion was noticed by Silvia Killingsworth, a former managing editor for The New Yorker who tweeted out a clip of the gesture with a caption that read: “Uhh what’s it like?”

Other social media users, including the Washington Examiner’s T. Becket Adams, took notice.

Adams did the internet the favor of turning the Hayes clip into a GIF and removing the sound, thus giving the hand motion an altogether new context:
That can be turned … obscene … very easily
