Chris Cuomo May Need to Worry After CNN Finally Weighs in on Latest Allegations – Opinion

It’s been months now since it was revealed that CNN’s Chris Cuomo was involved in advising his brother, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, regarding the sexual misconduct allegations that he was facing from multiple women.

CNN ignored the news when it came out. Chris Cuomo also was allowed to feature his brother on numerous shows. This helped them get him out of the nursing home scandal, and made him a hero in the face of the pandemic. It violated a basic principle of journalism to do that, but CNN didn’t have a problem with it and Chris Cuomo didn’t see a problem with it until the sexual allegations came. Chris abruptly said that he was unable to comment due to the family conflict. It’s funny how that “conflict” seemed to only work in only one direction — to the defense of his brother.

Today, news came out about how deep the CNN anchor was advising his brother. We reported that he played a significant role in the investigation, something he previously dismissed. He was involved in pushing back on the allegations, including being on the lookout for potential future damaging stories on his brother, monitoring stories he knew were coming, and advising the governor’s office as to what he knew, while also helping draft a formal statement.

Chris was also using his media connections to help his brother, as well, relying on sources he had in the media to let his brother’s team know what reporting was being done on the governor’s accusers.

This contradicts what he previously has said on the subject: “I never made calls to the press about my brother’s situation.”

Perhaps even more troubling, he appeared to be looking into his brother’s accusers — this tweet references one of them, Anna Ruch.

But in August, the anchor said, “I never attacked nor encouraged anyone to attack any woman who came forward.”

There are renewed calls to fire him after these new revelations. Of course, if he’d been at any place other than CNN, he would have been gone already.

“If this story is accurate, it describes a series of shocking ethical breaches — fireable offenses at any other news outlet,” Rolling Stone editor-in-chief Noah Schachtman wrote.

“Just to be clear, if anyone else on CNN’s roster did this, they’d not only be fired but blacklisted from journalism period,” MSNBC columnist Eric Michael Garcia insisted.

“It’s hard to imagine any news executive keeping Chris Cuomo on staff after today’s revelations. Then again, as CNN likes to say, ‘THIS is CNN,’” Columbia Journalism School professor Bill Grueskin tweeted.

CNN finally issued a statement regarding the new information.

“The thousands of pages of additional transcripts and exhibits that were released today by the NY Attorney General deserves a thorough review and consideration,” CNN stated. “We will be having conversations and seeking additional clarity about their significance as they relate to CNN over the next several days.”

We are sorry, this is way too little and far too late. They’ve had months to deal with this. Then they gave up and thought it would disappear. But the evidence only got worse. Because he promoted his brother’s show on CNN, they are also up to their necks. They ought to have got rid of him years ago. Even now, knowing that he was digging up info on one of his brother’s accusers, based upon the NY AG’s investigation, they’re still not pulling the trigger. They’re still just putting out this anemic statement. But this time, they may not be able to avoid it, especially when they’re even getting hit by liberal media critics, as well, for how slimy this all was.

We’ll have to see. But let’s hope there’s finally a little justice there, too, and Chris isn’t long for the network.
