It’s Episode 48 of CensorTrack with TR. This week, we talked about the massive effects of Big Tech’s thought-policing.
Since the March 2020 start of the MRC’s CensorTrack database, Free Speech America has identified and documented over 4,000 individual cases of biased censorship. Of the total 4,000 cases, 172 were found in 2022’s first quarter. Though 172 censored users is a modest number, the censorship doesn’t stop with them.
Other users may also be affected when a user has been censored. This is what we at the MRC call the “secondhand censorship effect.” In a recent study, we found that this phenomenon happened at least 144 million times in the first quarter.
Our definition of secondhand censorship refers to the amount of information users have had kept from them on social media.
YouTube has censored conservative commentsators, as an example Dan BonginoTwo times since Jan. Bongino’s first censorship attempt resulted in 870,000 subscribers and the second censorship attempt results in 894 989 subscribers. Bongino had 1,764,989 subscribers in his first quarter.
Similarly, Spotify censored renowned podcaster Joe Rogan. The platform deleted approximately 70 episodes from The Joe Rogan Experience. This censorship blocked 11 million people from viewing or listening to Rogan’s content.
Secondhand censorship has a greater impact than censorship. Big Tech and those on the left hide important information. They censor content that they could and should have made available to us. Big Tech must be held accountable for their censorship.
