The economy is currently in recession and more than 75 percent of Democrats want Joe Biden as their candidate for president in 2024. CBS MorningsOn Thursday, it was decided that this would be a great time to spotlight California Governor Gavin Newsom. Biden on the other hand is being criticized for his insufficiently shrilly-worded climate change actions.
CBS’s senior national and environmental correspondent Ben Tracy set the stage, melodramatically proclaiming, “Raging wildfires, epic flooding, record-shattering heat waves. Climate change has made summer the season for suffering.”
During his interview with Tracy, Newsom waxed indignant about the federal response, “It’s malpractice. It’s — it’s shame. I’m ashamed — uh, that these Republicans and one or two Democrats have put us in this position.”
Tracy tried to trap Newsom into criticizing Biden directly by asking “did President Biden overpromise or underdeliver?”
But Newsom didn’t bite the bullet, responding, “No. The President of the United States deserves my appreciation for his willingness to face the moment and be open about what it will take. This is our collective responsibility. Democrats, Republicans, House, Senate.”
Nonetheless, even Newsom’s slickest replies were no match for the CBS editing team, who inserted Biden’s speech in Somerset, MA, where he said “climate change is an emergency.”
Tracy observed that Tracy contrasted the seemingly weak Biden to the determined and strong Newsom.
While he called the climate crisis one, Biden hasn’t officially declared it a national emergency. That could grant him greater power to address the problem.
New poll shows that 61% believe the Biden government could do more to combat climate change. California has now taken on the challenge..
Tracy touted the many different climate change initiatives Newsom’s California has undertaken, “including major investments in a west coast offshore wind industry, and technologies to suck planet-warming carbon dioxide out of the air, as well as a fleet of satellites to detect methane leaks.”
After playing a clip of the glorious leader visiting a NASA laboratory in Pasadena, and a brief mention of California’s radical plan to ban all fossil fuel-powered cars by 2035, Tracy let the real purpose of this glowing interview slip, hinting, “Newsom might have another year planned, possibly a run for White House in 2024, if President Biden decides not to seek reelection..”
When Tracy directly asked the question to Newsom, he responded, “To be able to fall asleep at night better than what I am currently sleeping, I have begun setting myself up.”
That Newsom’s visit to the White HouseBiden’s mission in the Middle East was not to inspect the White House beds. The condition of some extremely-elite Mattress Firm beds was undoubtedly worse than anyone expected. CBS lefties clearly view Gavin Newsom the future leader of the Democratic Party. After all, the rest of the country loves California’s brand of liberalism, right?
Someday, the liberal media will realize trading one liberal coast for another isn’t going to win them any voters in the vast space in between. It isn’t this day.

7:39:22 am ETGAYLE King: This year’s California wildfire is the largest. It was set by an oak fire in Yosemite National Park. Now the crews say they hope to have it fully under control by the weekend — they’ve got a lot of work to do — but that’s just one of many that have burned across the west, partly due to the heat and drought conditions brought on by the global crisis of, you know it, climate change.
A Senator Joe Manchin has dropped opposition to a bill that would have addressed climate change. Federal action could be in the offing. Our senior national correspondent and environmental reporter, Ben Tracy, spoke with an individual under tremendous pressure to take action before the announcement. This is California Governor Gavin Newsom.
BEN TRACE: Record-breaking heat waves, destructive wildfires, and massive flooding. Climate change is making summer the season for suffering.
GOV. GAVIN NEWSOM – You know, a preview of what’s to come. It’s all too familiar for so many Californians and Americans.
TRACY
NEWSOM: It’s malpractice. It’s — it’s shame. I’m ashamed — uh, that these Republicans and one or two Democrats have put us in this position.
TRACY
TRACY Did President Biden underpromise, or overdeliver on his climate promises?
NEWSOM: No. The President of the United States deserves my appreciation for his efforts to address the present and be open about the fact that this is the way it will end. This is our responsibility. Democrats, Republicans, House, Senate.
JOE BIDEN, THE PRESIDENT [at press conference in MA, 07/20/22]Climate change is a serious emergency.
TRACE: President Biden did not declare climate change an emergency, despite calling it such. This could allow him to use more of his power in order to address the problem.
New poll shows that 61% believe the Biden government could do more to combat climate change. California has now begun to fill this void.
NEWSOM: California is determined to make a difference with unrivalled investments. It’s more than just an ambition; we are achieving that ambition.
TRACY. His plans are to invest 54 billion dollars from California’s almost 98 billion-dollar budget surplus in combating climate change. This includes major investments in an offshore wind industry on the west coast, technologies to remove planet-warming carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, and a fleet satellites that detect methane leaks.
Infrared cameras can see methane, an invisible gas. It is 84% more effective at warming our planet than carbon dioxide. It is possible to leak fossil fuels, but they are often not detected.
NEWSOM [At Pasadena, CA]: The methane’s overlooked — um, because it’s unseen.
FEMALE SCIENTIST [At Pasadena, CA]: The L-band is going to be imaging the Earth globally so —
TRACY NEWSON visited NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory near Pasadena in California. They’re currently building another satellite, which will be launched in 2024. The satellite will gather data about how climate change affects the world, including the speed at which Antarctic glaciers melt and how many trees are being lost in the Amazon forest.
TRACY: Does California have the potential to be a little laboratory for the rest?
NEWSOM: Absolutely. We intend to iterate. We need to keep iterating and futureproof the system. We’re in a rush.
TRACY – California, home to almost 40 million people, is the country’s fifth largest economy. By banning sales of gas-powered new cars and trucks by 2035, California is helping to accelerate the switch to electric vehicles.
Newsom could have another year planned, and a bid for the White House 2024 if President Biden does not seek reelection.
TRACY – Many believe that you are positioning yourself to run for office in 2024.
NEWSOM – I want to be able to fall asleep at night better than I do now. [SCREEN WIPE]Mother nature is the most powerful and dominant force on this planet. She does not bat 1,000, but she is the last to bat.
TRACY: He says that the devastations we are seeing all over the globe should be a reason to seriously consider climate change. To learn more, click here CBS MorningsI am Ben Tracy from Pasadena.
