CBS Celebrates 10 Years of Gayle King: Erases Harasser Co-Host From History

CBS MorningsMonday marked a decade for Gayle King’s co-hosting on the Show. Fans cheered Gayle with a cake, and also a video montage. There was no mention of King’s history of vacationing with the Obamas or her donations to Democrats. Though the montage included footage of past hosts like Norah O’Donnell and Anthony Mason, there was no shots of sexual harasser Charlie Rose, a former co-host.

Dokoupil fawned, “It is your tenth anniversary here at CBS News, and CBS Mornings. And we are celebrating your impressive decade here at the table.” The praise continued: “You have an amazing ability to talk to the most famous and influential people on the planet, most powerful.”

It’s, perhaps, easier to get big interviews with powerful Democrats when there’s no change of a tough question. According to a NewsBusters Analysis of King 2018, I:

Gayle King donated exclusively to Democrats. Open Secrets says she has donated more than $33,000 to DNC, $7300 for Barack Obama and $1000 to Democrat Harold Ford Jr. Open Secrets states that donations to DNC stopped in 2011, when she started at CBS. But the fact that she hasn’t given anything to Republicans shows that she’s a partisan leftist.

If donating only to Democrats wasn’t enough, in 2017, King has vacationed with them as well. CBS host and CBS journalist, King went on a boat trip with Obamas.

King ridiculously tried to defend the trip, spinning, “My vacations are not political and so I went on vacation with a great group of people and, to me, that’s not a political statement.” Last we checked, she hasn’t gone on yacht vacations with members of the Trump family.

The video montage ended with a cake and co-host Nate Burleson heaping on more praise: “You bring that energy. You are one of the best in the business.” At no time did anyone mention the anniversary segment mention the five and a half years King co-hosted with Rose.

Rose allegedly harassed or abused 27 females during that period, and she was her co-worker. March 3, 2018, after the scandal was exposed, King whined on-air about having to cover it: “I don’t know what to say about this…. We can’t do anything more for Charlie Rose, except to publicly flogging him. He’s gone…. I’m sick of handling it.”

After some blowback she decided to retreat. April 4, 2018,, saying of the Rose inquiry: “Let the chips fall where they may.” CBS also A 2018 conspiracy theory was promoted as for the reason behind the sexual harassment allegations against then-CEO Les Moonves.

TONY DOKOUPIL

GAYLE KING: This script is about dogs.

DOKOUPIL – Trying to deceive you.

KING: Okay. We look forward to it.

DOKOUPIL – It’s your tenth birthday here at CBS News. It’s a tradition that we celebrate your decade-long achievements at the table. A yellow gown is the best. You wore yellow the first day.

KING: My favorite color is yellow. Yellow is where I feel most happy. It’s true, it takes me a long time to choose what color to wear. Alex Kramer designed this gown for me many years ago. And I just —  yellow makes me happy. It was a day I wanted to be happy. It was nerve-wracking. But it wasn’t nerves about, “Oh, God, I don’t know if it can be done,” it was more nervous that you were trying to do a great job. We all felt that way. All of us in this room were there on that day. Everyone felt the same desire to see this program succeed.

DOKOUPIL: Yeah.

KING: Let’s knock on the wood. Yeah.

DOKOUPIL: Your reputation as a trustworthy, genuine, hard-working journalist has earned you a number of important interviews. Let’s look at some of those interviews, and also the harder stuff. You covered the U.S./Mexico border crisis. Interviews with the President. Elon Musk was in the tunnel.

KING: Yes.

DoKOUPIL: Great interview. George Floyd coverage. It was difficult, sad stuff. R. Kelly is the inspiration behind me too. Jeff Bezos. It is amazing to be able to speak to some of the most influential and powerful people on this planet. However, because of the nature of your work, it can also happen that you end up talking to regular people, even on their worst days.

KING: Yes.

DOKOUPIL – It can be difficult, but you make it easy for them.

NATE BURLESON:  Yes.

DOKOUPIL: We welcome them in our living rooms and into everyone’s. It’s an incredible skill.

BURLESON

DOKOUPIL Your overalls were on you.

KING: Yes.

DOKOUPIL: No yellow overcoats.

KING: Bruce Springsteen was the one I asked for this interview. It took me five years to get him to agree. He is my hero.

DOKOUPIL will be watching the packages and sharing stories from the back.

[Montage of Gayle’s interviews.]

…

[Montage ends.]

DOKOUPIL : This is what I believe. It’s the best place to be, is at the table. It’s true. I still — after all this time, still love this job. I just said to the driver coming —  to Jeff, coming in this morning, that when you come on Times Square, it’s lights, camera, action. Everyone is smiling and happy when you see the billboards. When I walk into this building, I feel the same way. This is an incredible, amazing job. Although it is a tremendous privilege and great responsibility, I believe it takes a lot. It’s not something I take lightly. Every morning I enjoy being with you, my friends.

BURLESON, You have that kind of energy. Your business is a top-flight.

KING: It’s hard to say if it is because I have the energy. But I do know that I enjoy it. It’s something I love.

BURLESON, You always say the exact same thing when you enter your home every single day. You say what?

KING: We all have bright, shiny faces.

[CBS staffer brings cake on stage.]
