CBS Avoids Biden’s Unbelieveable Excuses as Inflation Hits 40-Year High

Inflation is at an all-time high of 7.9 percent, a record for the past forty years. CBS Evening News called an audible and avoided President Joe Biden ludicrously blaming Russia’s invasion of Ukraine for the runaway inflation numbers. Instead of being focused on the inflation numbers CBS Evening NewsGlauked at skyrocketing rental prices.

“There is some bad news to report on the U.S. economy. Inflation among consumers rose 7.9 percent in the last year. It’s close to 40 years high. The price of gas is up by 38 percent per year, and that’s not counting the recent spikes. And monthly rents are also skyrocketing, pricing some people right out of their homes,” fill-in anchor Jericka Duncan announced at the top of the segment. This would be the only mention of Thursday’s inflation report.

Nancy Chen (Correspondent) took the reins and conducted interviews with two rent-paying residents in southern Florida. “Apartment sticker shock is happening nationwide, soaring nearly 20 percent last year across the U.S. but in the Miami metro area, they’re up nearly 50 percent,” Chen reported.

Two women from Florida were the victims of economic hardships, and this segment included them all. There was no mention of Biden’s excuses for the inflation report today.

ABC’s World News Tonight however did address Biden’s attempt to avoid accountability for the inflation numbers. Rebecca Jarvis, chief economics and business correspondent for the BBC, attacked Biden in a report she wrote to anchor David Muir.

Inflation numbers have risen to new 40-year records for the fourth consecutive month. These are areas Americans can’t afford to pay for. You can also see an increase in energy consumption of 26 percent and 8 percent respectively for food. Shelter has increased by almost 5 percent. This happened last year, in February. This is before Russia’s recent invasion of Ukraine and before the spike in gas prices. Economists predict that the economic impact of this invasion will be felt throughout the country, affecting everything from how much you buy food to what you spend on clothes.

More than one NBC Nightly NewsThey had Jo Ling Kent (business correspondent) interview a Wyoming restaurateur about the difficulties he faced in keeping the menu price down.

KENT: Brian Bowe owns the Albany restaurant, it’s an 80-year-old institution in Cheyenne, Wyoming, in the mountain region where inflation is the highest in the U.S., at nearly 10 percent. According to him, his suppliers have increased their prices.

BOWE: They may have to charge a fuel surcharge at times. It costs them money to transport the product from their warehouse. Then, we pay another fee to bring it to our location. The final decision is up to us, or our guest.

Kent, in the ABC segment also pointed out how Biden lies to blame Russia for inflation.

Today, President Biden responded, saying that he is working to lower prices. He blames inflation in large parts on Putin’s recent price rise. However, prices rose last month nearly entirely because of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Since May, inflation has exceeded 5 percent. Republicans screaming at the President

But unlike the CBS & ABC segments, NBC did include Republican criticism of Biden by airing a soundbite of Wyoming Senator John Barrasso who noted that “energy prices have been going up dramatically from the day [Biden] took office.”

United Healthcare made it possible for CBS to avoid any criticisms of Biden regarding inflation. The following links provide additional information.

JERICKA Duncan: The U.S. economic outlook is not good. The consumer inflation rate soared 7.9% over the last 12 months. It’s close to 40 years high. Prices for gas are increasing by 38% per annum, not including recent spikes. Monthly rents have also risen dramatically, driving some homeowners out of their homes. CBS News’ Nancy Chen reports on South Florida, which has seen the largest national rent increases.

NANCY CHEN: Jamie Wolf, a single parent raising her three children is hard enough. The landlord now wants to increase her rent by close to $1,000 per month. That’s a 33% hike.

JAMIEWOLF: I was able to get 5 percent and 6 percent in the past.

CHEN: It’s possible, but not $1,000.

WOLF: It’s impossible to prepare for.

CHEN. Apartment sticker shock is a nationwide phenomenon. Prices soared almost 20 percent in the US last year, however, in Miami they have risen nearly 50 percent. Wolf lives in Boca Raton and must make difficult choices.

WOLF: I have to go aftercare every afternoon to work.

DIANA STANLEY, This is about survival.

CHEN: Diana Stanley runs the Lord’s Place in West Palm Beach which helps homeless people and those on the brink.

STANLEY: They’re scared. They are tapped into all the resources they have.

CHEN is one of the people who need help. Ana, who did not want to reveal her name, says that her rent has doubled. With few choices, she might have to take her car to her parents.

ANA: A place where you can live is essential, as well as a bathing area.

CHEN: This must have been very difficult for you.

ANA: Yeah.

STANLEY: All of us are holding our breath and wondering when it will all end.

CHEN: It’s possible that the end is not in sight. Stanley fears it could quickly get even worse.

STANLEY – We will see a huge increase in the number of homeless people. This is a very worrying issue. I doubt we’ve even reached the end of the iceberg. This is what worries us all.

CHEN: High rents are causing many to feel left out.

DAVID MURIR: On the economy, and on the prices that you pay. The inflation rate is now at an all-time high. It is at its worst since 1982. In the last year, consumer prices rose 7.9 percentage. More than 25% increase in energy prices. Rebecca Jarvis is our chief economics and business correspondent. Rebecca joins us now. We know that the new report we have tonight comes from last month. It does not contain any details about this Russian conflict.

REBECCA JARVIS – That’s correct, David. We’ve also seen inflation numbers reach new 40-year highs for four consecutive months. These are the shocking new inflation figures and the pinch many Americans feel. In the past year, consumer prices increased 7.9 per cent. This is an increase of 40 percent. Grocery prices increased 8.6%, which is the highest annual rise since 1981. As bad as inflation may have become, it still hasn’t reached the heights of the 1970s or early 1980s. Jo Ling Kent shares more.

JOLING KENT: Americans face a grim new reality tonight after months of struggle with rising prices and busted finances. According to a 40-year record, inflation jumped 7.9 percentage in February over last year. The prices have risen across all sectors. Groceries rose 8.6 percent last year. Rent rising 4.7 percent. Gas prices are on the rise by 38 percent.

UNIDENTIFIED MASTER: These numbers are mind-blowing to me.

KENT: There have been price increases that are higher than ever before, such as furniture, food for babies, and baby food.

BRAIN BOWE : We are not looking to increase the prices. You can see the price rise creeping up.

KENT: Jean Olson is a California grocery store clerk.

JEAN OLINSON: It seems like you are living in panic. It’s because I worry that I won’t have enough work to pay the rent.

KENT: President Biden responded today, saying that he is working to lower prices. He blames inflation in large parts on Putin’s increase in price. Prices rose almost completely last month before Russia invaded Ukraine. Since May, inflation has exceeded 5 percent. Republicans are shaming President Obama.

JOHN BARRASSO, Senator: It is $4 per gallon for gas. What does Joe Biden think? It’s Russia, he says. Since his election, energy prices have risen dramatically.
