There is a lot of commentary out there about what Tuesday night was or wasn’t in terms of the results. The majority of commentary on Tuesday night focuses only on one issue, or small groups of issues. But the truth is, it was a total collapse of Democrats to connect with voters who chose them in place of Donald Trump in 2020.
Nationally, the Democrats have adopted a strategy of keeping what happened on January 6, 2021, at the forefront of Americans’ minds. A poll by the Democrats suggests that voters want Congress’ investigation into what occurred. This is interpreted as people believing that that that date was dangerous for American democracy. The data from Tuesday night shows that Americans are more concerned with the direct issues they face. As I mentioned yesterday, politics are all local.
Truthfully, some GOP polling suggests that voters also want Congress investigation. But the GOP interprets that as meaning they want Congress hurry up to get over it. The distraction it causes is what the voters perceive. No matter what the truth of the situation, the January 6th, 2021 election result in Virginia, New Jersey and other states was not a significant factor.
The Democrats’ completely failed to connect with voters in part because they are focused on issues very distant to the voters right now. It may have had more of an impact if national Democrats weren’t currently presiding over major economic issues like the supply chain shortages, inflation, and the resulting price hikes in just about every facet of the American consumer’s life. There was little chance of the insurrection having any effect with all these economic woes, topped by growing discontent about how public education has been run.
Democrats maintain that 1/6 of the day is one that will remain in infamy. That was most certainly disgraceful conduct. It is absurd to suggest that it was an attempt at insurrection or overthrow the U.S. Government. These were attention-seeking, live-action role-players who tried to disrupt government.
That was not all, because Congress returned to session just hours later and certified the election results.
Although the issue is now a 10-month old, most Americans are still not aware of the 1/6 riot. It is still an issue, but those that are aware don’t care as much about it than they did 10 months ago. They seem more focused on the fact that they can’t buy the items they need at home, from groceries to vehicles. They are definitely more concerned with what is happening in their kids’ schools.
The Democrats’ problem, however, is that they have no other options. They have failed to provide any relief legislation and their own governance has not helped. They can’t even make the case to it, and polling is showing that voters don’t see how the Democrats’ legislation will help them.

At the moment they are unable to communicate with voters and can’t rely on an event that occurred ten months back. There is no other strategy other than to wait out the economic crisis, and that won’t help their already incredibly poor chances at holding on in 2022.
