Appearing on Fox Business Network’s Varney & Co. late Thursday morning, Media Research Center President Brent Bozell declared that billionaire Elon Musk possibly buying out Twitter would both restore free speech to the social media platform and change “the entire dynamics of politics” across the globe. He also blasted the left-wing co-hosts of ABC’s The ViewNew York City subway shot to target gun rights
“Elon Musk offering to buy 100% of Twitter in an all-cash deal. He says Twitter should go private….Brent, this is all about free speech, right?,” fill-in host Ashley Webster asked Bozell at the top of the segment. Bozell declared: “You know, I’m gonna suggest to you that this is the biggest story since the 2020 elections. It may be even bigger than the 2020 elections.”
Bozell went on to explain the political importance of Twitter, as well as the effects of Twitter’s censorship policies.
Take for instance, Donald Trump was able use Twitter to win the 2016 United States presidency. In 2020, one reason, a major reason he lost the presidential campaign is because Twitter censored him and wouldn’t allow him. In hundreds of cases, conservatives have been excluded from public discourse on Twitter since that time. Twitter is today’s news website. It’s not just – this is important – it’s not just in the United States. It’s worldwide where this censorship is taking place.
He then observed that a potential Musk takeover of the company could have wide-ranging results: “What is the signature of Elon Musk? He has said he’s going to return free speech. He will, and that would change the dynamics of politics in America as well as worldwide. Think about that.” Webster replied: “I am now. You laid it out very well, Brent.”
Turning to another topic, Webster introduced a clip of the radical, left-wing co-hosts of ABC’s The View trying to exploit the New York City subway shooting as an excuse to shut down the Second Amendment: “The co-hosts of The View, who so kindly give us so much content every day, are railing against the Second Amendment following that horrific shooting inside a New York City subway….you take away the guns, there’s no gun violence.”
Bozell called them out because they tried to distract the real motivation of the shooter.
How do we know anything about the gunman? His videos show him as a black racist and black nationalist. This was an act of hatred. This was a hate crime. The only problem is, it’s the opposite of what The View has been talking about all these years. What do you do then? You can blame guns for the deflection.
Webster excoriated the ABC hosts: “But you’re taking away the rights of people who, thanks to the Constitution, have the right to defend themselves. That’s apparently what Webster said. The View, that’s outrageous, we shouldn’t have that ability. I can’t understand how they believe that is right.”
Bozell proclaimed: “Look, I’m telling you, the country is getting sick and tired of this.”

ASHLEY WEBSTER: Let’s get back to this, Elon Musk offering to buy 100% of Twitter in an all-cash deal. He believes that Twitter should become private. Let’s bring in Brent Bozell to talk about this. Brent, free speech is what this all boils down to, right?
BRENT BOZELL (right, it is). You know, I’m gonna suggest to you that this is the biggest story since the 2020 elections. It may be even bigger than the 2020 elections, and I’m happy to explain that if you’d like.
WEBSTER: Yes, please.
BOZELL: Consider – consider, Donald Trump won the presidency of the United States in 2016 because he was able to use Twitter.
WEBSTER: Yup.
BOZELL: In 2020, one reason, a major reason he lost the presidential campaign is because Twitter censored him and wouldn’t allow him. In hundreds of cases, conservatives have been excluded from public discourse on Twitter since that time. Twitter is today’s news website. It’s not just – this is important – it’s not just in the United States. It’s worldwide where this censorship is taking place. Is this Elon Musk’s signature, or something else? He has said he’s going to return free speech. He will change the dynamics of politics in America and around the world if he does. Just think about it.
WEBSTER: I am now. Brent, it was very clearly stated. Interesting. Let’s get to this issue, if we can. These are the co-hosts The ViewAfter the horrific shooting in a New York City subway, our friends at Jeremy’s, who are so kind to us every day, have begun railing against Second Amendment. Listen to the tape, then I’ll get your reaction.
JOY BEHAR (English): I think this is an American tragedy. I don’t understand why we can’t solve this problem.
JULIA HAART: You look at the UK, there’s almost no gun violence. When you think of New Zealand, Australia is what comes to mind. When you take away guns, you take away gun violence.
BEHAR: Yes. Well, I agree with that, but a lot of people don’t.
SUNNY HOSTIN: That’s absolutely true.
WEBSTER: Huh, you take away the guns, there’s no gun violence. Brent, how was that?
BOZELL: It’s the – it is the epitome of deflection and hypocrisy, what the viewers just watched right now.
WEBSTER: Yes.
BOZELL: What is known about this gunman? This man is black, a racist and a black nationist. He has made videos in which he makes hateful comments about whites. This was an act of hatred. This was a hate crime based on race. The only problem is, it’s the opposite of what The Viewhas talked about for all of these years. You now have to decide what you will do. You can blame guns for the deflection.
WEBSTER: Yeah, it’s really interesting, isn’t it? It is estimated that there are 300 million firearms worldwide. So if you ban guns, only the bad guys get the guns anyway, they’re already there. But you’re taking away the rights of people who, thanks to the Constitution, have the right to defend themselves. And apparently, according to The View, that’s outrageous, we shouldn’t have that ability. I can’t understand how they believe that is right.
BOZELL: And so anybody – and so anybody who commits – any terrorist that commits a murder by stabbing somebody in the neck, we need to ban knives. Knives cause death.
WEBSTER : Yes, but they do run down people in cars. We should prohibit the driving of cars.
BOZELL: Look, I’m telling you, the country is getting sick and tired of this. MSNBC did a story showing the man’s – his height, his weight, and the clothes he was wearing, never mentioned that he was black.
WEBSTER: Yup.
BOZELL: Why don’t you? BOZELL: Why not?
WEBSTER: Why? That’s just insane, that’s not giving all the details.
BOZELL: It is not true, but you can reverse it. They would correct it if they were reporting it incorrectly if there was an intentional racist white on the black.
WEBSTER: Yeah, it’s just – I can’t even find the words. It’s a human being doing a horrible crime on other human beings, that’s all that it is, give the proper description. Brent, you are my friend and I would be happy to talk with you any time. We are so grateful for your presence.
