Joe Biden has spent months pitching class warfare against the rich and in particular, against billionaires, incessantly demanding that they “pay their fair share” in taxes. This despite the fact, that only 40 percent of the tax burden is paid by the richest 1 percent while the highest 10 percent are responsible for 71% of the total taxes.

After preaching that division and making it harder on Americans to afford their Thanksgiving meal (not to mention most other expenses), Biden then trundled off to stay at private equity billionaire David Rubenstein’s compound for his Thanksgiving celebration on Nantucket. He doubtless doesn’t care about the hypocrisy of that at all. So is Biden going to ask Rubenstein, the co-founder of the Carlyle Group, if he’s paid his “fair share” as he parties in his home? Do billionaires who allow Biden to remain in their homes receive a pass? Rubenstein wouldn’t be there, he’s overseas reportedly. But it doesn’t sound like Rubenstein would be a big fan of the move to hit billionaires in the Build Back Better bill.
NY Post
Rubenstein, 72, is vocal on political matters — including taxes — and has previously slammed Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s proposed wealth tax.
“If you tax the upper income, there aren’t enough of those people to really make a wealth distribution effect that’s going to be significant,” Rubenstein told CNBC in 2019.
Rubenstein has also been supportive of the carried interest loophole. This tax break treats private equity profits as capital gains and not income. Because it gives them a lower rate of tax on their profits, the loophole can be seen as a gift to financiers.
Of course, when asked about why he was hanging out at a billionaire’s place after bashing billionaires, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said, “This is a time to put politics aside, spend time with your loved ones, and talk about what you’re grateful for.” Of course. Again, rules are for thee and not for me. He doesn’t want to be allowed to remain at his compound, but he does not wish for everyone else hate billionaires.
As is the case everywhere Biden travels, however, he met disapproval in even Nantucket (a state with deep blues like Massachusetts).
Zolan Kanno Youngs reports that Biden and his motorcade were stopped today at Coast Guard stations by a man sitting on his front porch.
Well we finally got our limerick moment: There once was a man from Nantucket, who told President Biden to go … Biden approval hits single digit as local man gives POTUS the finger https://t.co/eEunZBoBDZ via @nypost @stevennelson10

Biden was also met with anger by people in deep-blue States. After the terrible withdrawal from Afghanistan in September, there was a lot of anger in New Jersey. Biden then encountered some hysteria in Connecticut when he stopped in a childcare facility and stopped at the University of Connecticut. He was called a “traitor” and met with “f**k Joe Biden” chants.
Nantucket Man spoke for many Americans. He represents the current American opinion on American approval. His approval rating remains solidly in the basement as of Thanksgiving, with Real Clear Politics’ job approval average of 41.6.
So Biden can try to spin his hypocrisy and deflect from his harsh inflation, but he can’t avoid the judgment of the American people.
