Texas Democratic gubernatorial nominee Beto O’Rourke crashed Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s briefing with fellow officials on the Uvalde elementary school shooting Wednesday afternoon, in what will go down as one of the most inappropriate political stunts of the year.
While Abbott was speaking to reporters, a voice can be heard in the background trying to get the governor’s attention, and Lt. Gov Dan Patrick quickly tries to shut him down.
“You are doing nothing. You are all doing nothing… this is totally predictable,” he can be heard saying. It is hard to hear the rest of O’Rourke’s comments because thankfully both Sen. Ted Cruz and Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin talked over him.

“Sit down, you’re out of line and an embarrassment. Sit down and don’t play this stunt,” Cruz said.
“Sir, your are not in the right place. Sir, you are out of line. Sir, your behavior is unacceptable. I can’t believe you’re a sick son of a bitch who would come to a deal like this to make a political issue,” McLaughlin said.
Soon after, law enforcement and photographers began to surround the candidate. Cruz narrowly defeated him in his 2018 Senate race. He then left the auditorium.
