Ron DeSantis is still the number one public enemy of Democrats. This, at least in the absence of the farcical January 6-th committee. Florida’s governor has been subject to shameless media misinterpretations that continue to take hits.
You’ll likely recall the deranged “60 Minutes” piece that tried to down DeSantis as being bought off for distributing the vaccinations to the most vulnerable, a move that ultimately saved many lives in a state that holds the nation’s largest elderly population outside of Maine. There were also arguments about monoclonal antibody. DeSantis was initially criticized for making them available instead of just focusing on vaccines. The narrative changed to say that DeSantis was actually selling the access to these treatments. It was also totally false.
And we haven’t even gotten into the vast conspiracies surrounding Florida’s counting of COVID deaths. These absurdities have been repeatedly disproved, and they keep coming back.
As the media doesn’t stop, there is always a way to get around it. The Miami Herald offered a fresh attempt last night. According to the reporting, the State of Florida delivered a shipment of “scarce” COVID treatments to a “private clinic” before they sent them to a big hospital in Miami. Tampa Bay Times printed the same story.
Also note that while DeSantis isn’t named in the piece, the Governor controls and oversees the Florida Department of Health. The implication is clear.
Florida determines the amount and whereabouts of monoclonal antibody supplies. The feds manage them. Why did the small clinic receive more COVID-19 therapy than the largest state hospital?

Before we get into the details, note the use of the term “private clinic” here. That’s purposeful, and it’s meant to conjure up the same bias asserted by the left’s attacks on private schools. In reality, however, the private healthcare system is the backbone. Almost every family doctor has his private practice. Similar holds true for most other doctors in the country, but not for those working directly for hospitals (surgeons or cancer specialists). What was the point at which hospital patients were more deserving of treatment than private clients?
In short, given the lack of any moral distinction between a private clinic and a hospital, the Herald’s reporting falls on its face immediately. Broward County, Florida is also one of Florida’s bluest counties. Do you believe that Florida’s GOP government sends treatments to liberal friends?
The details are, however, bogus as it is. The Florida Department of Health did not do any wrong sending these treatments to Broward County. There was also no favoritism. In reality, the clinic was open on Christmas Day, treating high-risk cancer patients, which is exactly the drug’s prescribed use. It’s meant for those who are heavily immunocompromised, i.e. Patients undergoing cancer treatment and transplant patients. Does it seem that patients at high risk in hospitals should be treated more than people at private clinics? This would be ridiculous and imprudent.
SCANDAL: High-risk patients with cancer were treated at the private clinic on Christmas Day. It’s great that they got Evusheld because it could save their lives. @MiamiHerald @TB_TimesIt’s possible to be mad about it. Keep making yourselves irrelevant, Florida corporate press. https://t.co/x0VMMVxg6J

The Herald is known for publishing garbage articles that conceal facts and deny responsibility. Joe Biden federalized distribution, but failed to ensure sufficient supply. This is why the treatment are so scarce. To date, Florida has received 6,300 doses of Evusheld. What is the point of the Herald not taking the White House with them instead of taking another submissive shot at DeSantis’?
The answer is obvious: They are total hacks.
