December 7th: Business As Usual Shut Down
Democrats gained control of the House and Senate in 2020 promising to pursue a wide range of reforms. These included large spending on healthcare and climate justice. Accountability for police. Supreme Court reform. Housing. Federal voting rights legislation. Breaking down the barriers to union organizing. DC statehood.
For the first 11 months of the year much of that agenda has been stalled by a Republican filibuster in the Senate and inaction among a handful of ‘centrists’ who are more concerned about their donors and special interests than about improving lives for people in our communities.
The timeline to pass key pillars in the progressive agenda’s progressive agenda has been rapidly decreasing as 2021 draws near.
For too much of the Washington, DC establishment, it’s still business as usual with polite lunch meetings, press conferences, and inaction while ‘negotiations’ play out. We must disrupt the status quo and create space for new types of politics if we are to make breakthroughs in our moment.
There are several groups that have been given specific intersections they will block throughout the morning. Later in the day, there is a rally at the Capitol.
D.C. officials are serious about it and even issued a traffic bulletin.
I know, I know, you’re thinking, “okay, why should I care?”
Right now the left’s base is demoralized. They have discovered, much to their dismay, that not only did the Democrats not “respect them in the morning,” the Democrats can’t even remember their name and are trying to push them out of the door before the neighbors notice. They can’t go to their favorite tactic of violence in the streets because that would damage Joe Biden.
They probably know that the next year will bring chaos and that the Republicans will likely control the Senate and House of Representatives. This will put an end to their ridiculous demands for two years. Tomorrow will bring out the best in them. Can they get as many people out of this?
U-Haul trucks with several white, fit-looking men wearing matching blue jackets, pants and khaki trousers, as well as baseball caps, should be watched out for U’Haul trucks. These guys may have been attempting to start a riot. (See Feds in Khaki Pants march in DC). Because that, and not the left’s demonstration, may be the objective here.
