Ocasio-Cortez Gets Reminded of ‘I’m the Boss’ Remarks After Saying Her Job Is to ‘Serve, Not Rule’

“So until you do it, I am the boss.”

After Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said Friday the job of lawmakers is to “serve, not rule” in response to critics who mocked her past as a bartender, a conservative reporter reminded the freshman congresswoman of remarks she made last week where she declared that she was “the boss.”

“I find it revealing when people mock where I came from, & say they’re going to ‘send me back to waitressing,’ as if that is bad or shameful,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote in a tweet. “It’s as though they think being a member of Congress makes you intrinsically ‘better’ than a waitress. But our job is to serve, not rule.”

Daily Wire reporter Ryan Saavedra replied with a video clip of Ocasio-Cortez saying, “I’m the boss” while appearing at an event at the New York Hall of Science on Feb. 22.

The clip provides the full context of Ocasio-Cortez’s remarks, which were centered around her frustration with critics of the ambitious Green New Deal proposal she introduced in early February.

“I just introduced Green New Deal two weeks ago and it is creating all of this conversation. Why?” Ocasio-Cortez said. “Because no one else has even tried. Because no one else has even tried. So people are like: Oh, it’s unrealistic. Oh, it’s vague. Oh, it doesn’t address this little minute thing.”

“And I am like, You try! You do it! ‘Cause you’re not! ‘Cause you’re not!” she said.

“So until you do it, I am the boss,” Ocasio-Cortez added. “How about that!”

In late February, conservative Hollywood actor James Woods called the New York lawmaker an “arrogant idiot” after she tweeted out a challenge urging the Green New Deal’s critics to propose an alternative or else acknowledge that she and her ilk are “in charge.”

“So, you may have missed this, but the way it works in America is YOU work for US. The last time somebody told Americans to sit down and shut up was 1776,” Woods tweeted. “If you ever learn to read, look it up. You are not only a idiot, you’re an arrogant idiot, and there is nothing more dangerous.”
