Liberal street cred should be maintained.
So it was today. Morning JoeIn just 90 seconds Al Sharpton had three times recorded his disagreement with Mike Pence. The recording was made at one point. Sharpton boasted that “noone has been more critical than me of Mike Pence.”
But, having ensured that no one would think he was going soft on conservatism, Sharpton went on to praise Pence for his actions on January 6, 2021. Pence is worthy of “respect” as well as “credit,” Sharpton said. Sharpton called Pence “absolutely heroic” We declined President Trump’s demand to him refuse to certifiy the results of his presidential election. And we remained in the Capitol despite the breaching by rioters.
The “Pence-Sharpton 24” banners are not something we would want to break out anytime soon. It was Sharpton, not so long ago who caused the New York City riots. We’ll file it under the NewsBusters Rubric of “Sudden Respect”. This is for liberals who give credit to conservatives for doing things they like!
Joe Scarborough sounded a note similar to Sharpton’s, saying that on January 6th, Pence, along with Nancy Pelosi and Mitch McConnell, “stood in the gap and protected and defended democracy. What do you know? It should not be difficult to look back at this and think, “job well done.”
MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell gave an alternative take on Pence Thursday night. “I wish he were steely, determined on December 6th when he could’ve told the vice-president that there is no other option. As it was, This drama, this tragedy was so much the result of Mike Pence’s cowardly silence over a full monthIt was never revealed to the country that the vice president did not have a choice.

AL SHARPTON – I believe that there come moments when it is necessary to transcend our disagreements or partisan views and take a stand in support of what we truly believe. What I see was that we did.Also Mike Pence has received more criticism than I can imagine.,I still disagree with him about nine of the ten points. He chose to live in the country, not his life. This guy, I’m referring to — picture you are in a building and you see these mobs trying to kill you. Your boss is calling you and telling you that they’re instigating it. He still decided to do what was right for his country.

SHARPTON – Easily escaped. There was a Secret Service and all sorts of security to get him out of trouble. He stood by, which in many ways prevented the country’s fall into any of its possible fate.
Now, Mike Pence is someone I have to show a lot respect. Then, let’s fight over everything else. —
SCARBOROUGH: Sure.
SHARPTON : I am thinking about it at the moment. He did something truly heroic. He should be credited, I believe.For that. He would not have done it, and I believe he wouldn’t. Imagine if he had gone to the well to try to not certificate the election. Imagine if Donald Trump had actually done the things he wanted.
We don’t know how it would have ended with that mob of violent people and others around the country, who were likely to repeat that violence in various states that were not as questionable. I am now looking at what might have been if he had not stood up. His respect is due.
