On Sunday’s This WeekABC’s George Stephanopoulos (host) and Jonathan Karl (chief Washington correspondent), gave their best efforts to prop up the ailing Biden government and its terrible economic record. Despite their own polling showing, 69 percent of voters give Biden a failing grade on the economy, Stephanopoulos referred to the economic picture as a “tale of two economies,” while Karl whined that Biden is “getting credit for almost nothing.”
Kicking off this portion of the mostly liberal “Powerhouse Roundtable” Stephanopoulos turned to ABC contributor and Democracy for America CEO Yvette Simpson to remark on Biden’s catastrophic polling: “We just saw in our poll this morning, 69 percent sour on the economy, Joe Biden stuck in the 30s right now.”
Simpson correctly noted how “if the issue at the ballot box is, do you do feel like we’re in a recession we’re [Democrats] going to lose on that” issue.
Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie jumped in to note that “when you’re arguing with people in a nine percent inflation world that they shouldn’t be feeling pain that the economy is actually good that’s just a losing argument and the American people feel it, they know it.”
Being the Democrat Party propagandist that he is, Stephanopoulos claimed the nation’s economy isn’t one of recession, but “a tale of two economies.” “Look at those jobs numbers on Friday!” He breathlessly added.
Christie wasn’t having it:
But people cannot keep up the cost of their daily lives. So they say okay, great I’ve got a job, that’s a good thing. However, to reach that job, I needed to pump gas into my car. It costs more. Then when I’m on my way home from work, I got to go to the supermarket and I get absolutely tanked there from a dollar perspective and then I look at what’s going on with my kids, if I’m sending them to school, going to college, all those expenses are going way, way up. People say that I do have a job but that my life is much worse than it was two or three years ago. And we know from Ronald Reagan, that that’s an incredibly powerful question. Are I more fortunate now than two years ago? And the American people don’t feel it and that’s why Joe Biden is in the 30’s.
Later on in the segment, Karl huffed that Biden wasn’t getting the love that ABC gives to him on a daily basis: “He’s getting credit for almost nothing, he’s on a roll, I mean there’s no question that Joe Biden is on a roll legislatively, on the national security front, but he’s getting no credit for it.”
Continuing to gaslight his viewers, Karl claimed that while “inflation is still a factor.” “Gas prices are actually coming down and have been coming down for almost two months. It is amazing to see the unemployment rates. Both the unemployment and wage growth continue to increase. It’s just not keeping pace with inflation.”
Once Karl was done, Christie jumped back in to mock Karl and his Democrat pals: “It’s an inside Washington role. Like, they won on the Inflation Reduction Act, which is a ridiculous name, as you pointed out in the interview” Christie said mockingly.
He then noted how ridiculous the media celebrations are over the passage of the so-called “Inflation Reduction Act”: “They got Democrats to actually vote for a Democrat bill, what are we going to do? Like, drop the confetti at the White House?”
The former New Jersey Governor ended by reminding the panel that “The people in the rest of the country, are saying wait a second, I’m still paying much more for gas than I should. I’m still paying much more to cool my house. I can’t get groceries on the table and I’m worried about the future.”

ABC’s This Week
August 7, 2022
Eastern at 9:42:17GEORGE STENOPOULOS: It’s clear that a majority of Americans are not happy with the state of the economy. Joe Biden, however, is stuck at the 1930s.
YVETTE SIMPSON: Yeah, I think the reality is, continue to debate about whether there’s inflation, we’re in a recession. And if you just ask people, they’re struggling. And I don’t know if the IRA is gonna get there. We know that—
STEPHANOPOULOS: The bill they’re working on.
SIMPSON: Yesterday’s bill passed the Senate. Still, people are suffering. It was impossible to provide child care. Paid leave wasn’t available. Still, we have problems with our wages.
The pain is still felt by many. Do you feel that we are in a recession? Are you concerned about inflation? We need to show the American people that we’re doing everything we can to make them secure. We won’t get there if we just win on gas prices or if we pass a climate bill right away.
CHRIS CHRISTIE. George, when people argue that there shouldn’t be pain in a world with nine percent inflation, that it isn’t, that’s not a winning argument. Americans feel it and they are aware of it. And in the end—
STEPHANOPOULOS, It’s a story about two economies. Yes, you are correct. The inflation rate has reached an all-time high. Take a look at Friday’s jobs numbers.
CHRISTIE. But people just can’t afford to live their lives. JONATHAN KARL: If you look at our new poll, I mean he’s getting credit for almost nothing, he’s on a roll, I mean there’s no question that Joe Biden is on a roll legislatively, on the national security front, but he’s getting no credit for it. You should also remember that inflation remains a significant factor. The gas prices have fallen for nearly two months and are now falling. It is amazing to see the unemployment rates. Both the unemployment rates and wage growth continue to increase. It’s just not keeping pace with inflation.
CHRISTIE : This is a Washington insider role. This is an internal Washington role. They won the Inflation Reduction Act. It is an absurd name as you mentioned in the interview. They won that. Democrats voted for a Democrat bill. What are they going to do now? They should just drop the confetti from the White House.
It’s absurd. It is an inside Washington position. It’s a Washington insider role. I’m still paying much more to cool my house. I can’t get groceries on the table and I’m worried about the future.
