ABC Trumpets ‘Powerful’ January 6 Hearing as ‘Cause of’ Liz Cheney’s ‘Life’

After months of preparation and an abundance of coverage (seven minutes, 56 seconds), Preview Thursday’s primetime hearing of the House Select Committee on January 6, ABC’s Good Morning America The Friday hyping session was intense, lasting almost 12 minutes (1:55). “powerful,” “high-stakes, primetime hearing” The following information is provided: “carnage at the Capitol” This included Congresswoman Liz Cheney, R-WY having her “moment.”

Michael Strahan was the co-host and got things going from the beginning teases. “On this Friday morning, powerful testimony at the primetime hearing as the January 6th committee makes its case. Trump’s Inner Circle: Never before seen footage and testimony at Capitol Carnage[.]”

Whit Johnson was Weekend’s co-host and took the lead for the opening segment. “high-stakes primetime hearing on the January 6th attack on the Capitol with emotional testimony…and graphic video…much of it never seen by the public before.”

Rachel Scott, Congressional correspondent, followed up with a detailed report showing key moments. It was written in harsh terms just as her Congress allies would like it to be:

This January 6, 2017 Select Committee laid out evidence from nearly one year. The video was shot using dramatic new technology and Trump’s inner circle spoke.

Scott was captivated, recapping their “graphic 12-minute video of the attack,” testimonials from a Capitol Police offier and documentary filmmaker, and remarks from Cheney and Congressman Bennie Thompson (D-MS). Scott did not mention that Thompson had objected to 2004’s presidential results and feared they were rigged in favor of George W. Bush.

Jonathan Karl was the chief Washington correspondent and wrote a book about January 6th. He was infatuated by how it looked. “was significant new material…but I think what…the most important thing is the way the committee tied the horror of that day to Donald Trump.”

Regardless of one’s opinion on January 6, it’s safe to say the liberal media will never quit Trump.

Karl was a shill talking about Cheney and boasted that she was perfect for it:

This was Liz Cheney’s moment. She did it calmly without any vitriol or emotion. She has treated this like the cause of her life and has issued a challenge to Republicans, when — when she went out and said that there will come a day when Donald Trump is gone, but your dishonor will remain. This was her challenge to Republicans, defending the indefensible.

Chief legal analyst Dan Abrams provided the only source of sanity when he pumped the breaks on both the power of the committee and how two members of Congress droning on prior to the video was ineffective (click “expand”):

ABRAMS. Liz Cheney tries to connect the Oath Keepers, the Proud Boy and Oath Keepers to Donald Trump. They have been arrested and it was clear that they claimed they were inspired and motivated by Donald Trump. This is the thing I will be looking for as we move forward. It sounds like it will happen on day six. The questions that are being asked by me is: Are they able to link Donald Trump to both the Oath Keepers, and the Proud Boys directly? Are there any people in Trump’s inner circle that were working with them. They may be able to provide evidence in this regard, according to the committee. From a legal standpoint, that’s going be a crucial question.

STRAHAN Was there a moment that struck you as particularly powerful, or a series of such moments?

ABRAMS: It was Donald Trump’s use. It was Bill Barrs or Ivanka Trump. Because then, you can listen to what the members of Congress have to say, and some of the opening speeches were too lengthy, it was about White House counsel. I think that — that they lost some people there. I think they brought them back when they had the — the evidence, when they had the accounts from Donald Trump’s inner circle.

At 7:30 AM Eastern, a half hour of news included a brief 21 second overview. Then, at 8:00 AM Eastern, Robach, a long-time ABC Newser, had an interview on the topic with Nick Quested (documentary filmmaker embedded with Proud Boys that fateful morning).

Needless to say, her questions were pedestrian (click “expand”):

Nick, your documentary was about the reasons Americans are so divided. You spent time with the Proud Boys. It was obvious that they would be attending the rally on January 6, 2018. So you went along to film the event. Then, you realized that it was becoming too much.

(….)

It is possible that you witnessed many things unimaginable on this day. Do you have any particular memories?

(….)

Are you concerned about your personal safety? You and your team?

(….)

It is my understanding that a rioter pursued you once. Could you please tell me the details?

(….)

I know you were there to document history and that is your job and that’s the purpose of this documentary. Was that your own reflection on the day?

Robach and Johnson were riveted after the interview.

ROBACH: An adrenaline overload and, yet, he and his crew were able to stay focused despite —

JOHNSON: Yep.

STRAHAN: Yes.

ROBACH: — the chaos which is really incredible and we have the footage to describe that.

JOHNSON

ROBACH: Yeah.

JOHNSON: It’s quite the visual.
