ABC’s new show Abbott ElementaryThe mockumentary sitcom “The Teachers at Philadelphia Public School” mocked teachers in the struggling school. It also featured Beatrix Potter’s famous children’s book. Peter Rabbit.
In the episode, ‘Art Teacher,’ on Tuesday, plucky young second grade teacher Janine (Quinta Brunson) invites her woke artist friend Sahar (Mitra Jouhari) to be a volunteer art teacher at the school.
Janine and Melissa, her second-grade teacher are thrilled about the annual celebration. Peter RabbitProject with the children. Every year, the second graders create styrofoam plate bunnies in coordination with the art teacher.
Melissa, a strong-talking, middle-aged South Philly woman, purchased 75 new books with her own funds for this year’s book. (In the series, the school’s incompetent administrator has been shown wasting taxpayer money, but the teachers themselves spend from their own pocket for extras in the classroom.)
Janine immediately hears from Sahar, that she’s worried about Janine. Peter RabbitThis book is not “relevant enough”. Sahar accepts this choice only after he has considered it at a “metaphorical level”.
“I mean, most people just think of it as this story about a rabbit who steals carrots. But we’re not like most people,” Sahar tells Janine. Subtext is what we see. “It’s about capitalism and domesticity.”
Sweet Janine is worried, but she smiles because she doesn’t want to offend her bohemian “cool” friend. Ultimately, Sahar has the children make the adorable styrofoam bunnies. Unfortunately, she also tears up the 75 copies of Peter Rabbit that Melissa purchased and uses the paper from it to create an art installation in the library.
Melissa is infuriated about Sahar destroying the books, and Janine is shocked by her friend’s actions. Sahar then criticizes the idea of using the classic children’s book at all, saying it is “outdated” and lacks “bunnies of color.”
SaharQuestion: What is the reason you are reacting in this manner? It was a beautiful project.
JanineSahar, the books that she bought were destroyed by you. Mm-hmm.
Sahar: You all don’t understand. It was about pushing the boundaries.
Melissa: Let’s push your limits with this book! No! Alright. [ Exhales sharply ]
Janine: Sahar, this project was about the kids practicing their fine motor skills in a creative way. It was too extreme.
SaharIt’s not possible. You can also get more books. It is not difficult.
JanineIt can be difficult, in fact.
Sahar: Then I’ll use some of my money to create a personal grant so that the school can get more relevant books than “Peter Rabbit.”
JanineHow do you deal with the “Peter Rabbit”?
Sahar: You’re almost done.
Janine: This is done because it’s necessary.
Sahar: Do you see any colors in the bunnies?
Janine: It’s a hit with the kids, right? Just because a bunch of people like something doesn’t make it bad.
Sahar: Ehhh.
JanineWe owe Melissa an explanation, Sahar.
Sahar: Wow. It was obvious to me. It was obvious to me that you were one.
Janine: Who is the one?
Sahar: The conductor of conformity and mediocrity. You know, I thought it was so cool that you worked in an underprivileged school, but now I see that you don’t even care about inspiring the kids. Know what you are? I hate to say it, but I think you’re a conventional thinker.
JanineWhat do you know? It is possible to get out.
Sahar, the true “conductor for mediocrity or conformity,” is mindlessly regurgitating woke ideologies. Janine and Melissa are trying to help their students learn in practical ways.
Janine, in order to raise money for Melissa’s new books, sells her art work to some woke commie artists.

Janine: I obviously could not afford to buy the books myself, so I had to get creative. What do you see? here is a commentary on both domesticity and capitalism. Oh, also socialism and sexualism. If you think about it for a second, carrot…or not, it’s up to the eye of the beholder of the person who has the eye. I reached out to some art collectors who notoriously have money to burn. I sold the art installation and had enough money to replace the books.
Abbott ElementaryIt has been one the few hits of ABC’s sitcom series in recent times. The mockumentary format of sitcoms is almost extinct. But, the success of this new show proves it can still endure with good writing that does not insult or lecture its audience.
