10-Year-Old Fulfills His Late Grandfather’s Wish, Hugs Future Hall of Fame Pitcher Clayton Kershaw at All-Star Game – Opinion

Blake Grice (10 years old) approached Clayton Kershaw at Dodgers Stadium to inform him of his wish to meet the future Hall of Fame pitcher.

Clayton Kershaw believed his press conference was finished when he was pleasantly surprised by a 10-year old.

Brain cancer claimed the life of his grandfather. So Grice took it upon himself to achieve his grandfather’s goal. Grice approached Kershaw and, after Kershaw had finished talking to the media about his grandfather’s goal, Grice noticed Kershaw at the age of 10. Grice shared this with Kershaw

“I want to tell you a quick little story. Your grandfather was a huge fan. He watched 1988 and wanted to know you. [Dodgers announcer] Vin Scully one day.”

Vince Scully, for those not aware, is one of the most important sports announcers of all time.

Grice explained to Kershaw the significance of meeting him.

“So this moment is important to me because I’m meeting you for him. He was from Rodando Beach, and some years ago, he died from brain cancer.”

Grice started to cry as Kershaw spoke to him. Kershaw hugged Grice after he started to tear up. Kershaw shared this with Grice

“It’s great to meet you,” Kershaw told Grice, adding it “took a lot of courage” to tell his story.

The All-Star Game saw the American League defeat the National League by a score of 3-2. Giancarlo Staton of the New York Yankees had two runs, while Byron Buxton, the Minnesota Twins’ centre fielder had the final and third run.

Clayton Kershaw, the National League’s starting pitcher, was successful in allowing no runs. However, Tony Gonsolin (the Dodgers teammate), allowed three runs to begin the fourth.

Dodgers star center fielder Mookie Betts had the team’s first run batted in, and St. Louis Cardinals star Paul Goldschmidt hit a home run that gave the National League an early 2-0 lead. They were able to score a win thanks to their big American League bats in the fourth.

Grice already has his career goal. As he discussed with Arash Markazi, a sports columnist, Grice is interested in a career as a journalist. Grice explained:

“I really feel like he was just helping me calm down my senses, cause I was very emotional,” Grice said. “He’s a nice guy and he wanted to help me get through that moment.”

Grice looks bright in sports no matter what his future holds.
