Following SCOTUS Win for Religious Freedom, We Are Still Utterly Screwed – Opinion

Monday’s Supreme Court decision was a resounding success for liberals. It ruled that a coach of high school football had been wrongly disciplined after he prayed on the field.

Joe Kennedy had been leading prayer with the willing students following games when an opposing coach decided that he should be disciplined by his school district. After much back-and-forth, the district finally removed Kennedy from the school. This was despite the fact students had chosen to go with him in prayer. The result was a long legal battle which culminated with this Supreme Court win.

But while I agree with other conservatives that this is a win for religious freedom, I’m going to pour some cold water on things and opine that we are still You are completely screwed.

The Supreme Court ruled that it is illegal to use public property for prayer. That’s how we got screwed, even after today’s victory.

Just think about this. One football coach chose to pray privately and was then forced into a long battle with the Supreme Court before being finally saved by it. It is terrifying. Kennedy is being punished for his long and costly court battles. The Supreme Court was required to confirm that you are entitled to prayer in your own school.

Furthermore, it is up to the Supreme Court which cases they will accept. What if they simply didn’t have the time to take up this issue? Each year there are many worthy issues where abusers are left out in the cold. If that had happened to Kennedy, he’d have been left to languish, suffering under the ridiculous prior rulings of the lower courts.

Is it beginning to become apparent how thin this line is? Yes, I’m grateful we currently have a Supreme Court that respects religious liberty and originalism. How long will that continue to be true? All it would take was one unexpected death to make John Roberts the swing vote again, and it’s no secret how he typically falls when that’s the case.

History also suggests that eventually there will be another liberal Supreme Court. It’s just a matter of time, and the fact that three justices actually believe you don’t even have a right to pray by yourself on public property is objectively insane. Every right you have, including guns and religion, will be destroyed if the liberal bloc is re-elected to power.

The trend is alarming, and it’s likely that the dam will fall. When that occurs, I’m fearful of what happens to the country. One conservative vote at the Supreme Court stops the onslaught illiberalism, and government overreach. That’s scary, scary stuff. With this in mind, I hope the conservative justices who are older recognize the dire state of our nation. Strategic retirements are necessary when it comes.
