Chesa Boudin isn’t a name we hear much here in the St. Louis area, but his story might be instructive. Boudin’s parents were Weather Underground members convicted for the felony murders of two police officers and a security guard when he was a baby, so he was raised instead by their fellow Weather Underground members, Bernadine Dohrn and Bill Ayers. (Yes, the ones who helped launch Barack Obama’s state senate campaign.)
Boudin, a Soros-backed DA for uber-progressive San Francisco (January 2020), was named after Boudin.
But, San Francisco’s voters recall Boudin after mounting anger over his soft-oncrime approach and crime, homelessness, and drug abuse. On Wednesday, 60 percent of the votes were in support of this recall.
Recently, we in St. Louis learned of indictments – both in the City, of three aldermen, and in the County, of a political appointee – indicating a pervasive culture of corruption. Boudin’s recall reminds us – we don’t have to accept this. We don’t have to accept bad policy, corruption, or incompetence.
If they can get it right in San Francisco, there’s hope we can get it right here.
