The first “Field of Dreams” game in Dyersville, Iowa, took place in 2021, which my colleague Jerry Wilson wrote an eloquent ode about at the time. (see: Never abandon your Field of Dreams). We also covered some absurd, politically charged handwringing that a Washington Post reporter did over the game.
But this isn’t a story about politics. It’s about the fun and memories that surround the Great American Pastime we love. Earlier on Thursday afternoon, ahead of the 2022 match-up in an Iowa cornfield between the Chicago Cubs and the Cincinnati Reds, Fox Sports released an absolutely adorable promotional video for the game… starring my fave Cincinnati Red of all time, Johnny Bench.
Bench, as anyone who loves the game knows, is one of the great stars of the Reds’ dominant Big Red Machine of the early to mid-1970s.
A second video was released in promotion of the game and features Ken Griffey Sr. (right fielder) as well as his son Ken Griffey Jr.
Chills.
