10 Dead, Number of Injured Unknown in Shooting at Buffalo Grocery Store – Opinion

The Associated Press reports that 10 are confirmed dead and a number of others are hurt after a shooter attacked a Buffalo, New York grocery store on Saturday afternoon. Law enforcement has taken custody of the suspect shooter.

The Associated Press was told that a gunman with body armor and a rifle attacked a Buffalo grocery store, killing 10 people. The suspect was taken into custody by law enforcement officers Saturday afternoon.

Details on the number of additional people shot at the Tops Friendly Market and their conditions weren’t immediately available. These officials could not speak out publicly about the issue and only spoke on condition of anonymity.

The official cautioned the investigation was in its preliminary stages and that authorities hadn’t yet discerned a clear motive, but were investigating whether the shooting was racially motivated.

About 3 miles (5km) North of Buffalo, the supermarket is found in a predominantly Black area. It is mostly residential with a Family Dollar Store and a fire station nearby.

While the gunman is in custody, according to a tweet by Buffalo police, they haven’t yet released the man’s identity.
