Anyone cheering Dan Bongino’s channel getting canceled supports the silencing of voices – and inept business practices.
While much reporting this week centered on Neil Young’s impotent threats leveled at Spotify, over at YouTube, another content controversy was raging, and it ended in laughably ridiculous results. The battle between Dan Bongino and YouTube has escalated to the point that his YouTube accounts are being permanently removed.
It is obvious that this reasoning was purely absurd.
Recent actions reached an eminent climax last week due to controversial comments about COVID specifics. YouTube made a move when Bongino posted video of him addressing the myth that militant orders about cloth mask usage. YouTube found this to be blatant pandemic misinformation. They suspended Bongino and demonetized his account.
The COVID specialists at YouTube didn’t realize that Bongino was essentially repeating the recent position by the CDC about masks and also quoting Dr. Anthony Fauci. Dan uploaded a follow up video to his verified account in response. YouTube Declared this to be a violationHe was then permanently removed from the website.
“When a channel receives a strike, it is against our Terms of Service to post content or use another channel to circumvent the suspension.”
Bongino owned two accounts on the website: his main channel, where he posted videos and other content; and his secondary channel, which primarily featured clips from his radio broadcast. This secondary account was suspended first. Dan uploaded a direct, pointed video to the main channel. The platform’s attempt to circumvent its policies is deemed a joke at this point. This was actually an open, final message.
The video that YouTube declared was the motivation for the ban was entitled, “Why I’m Leaving YouTube”. The move goes from being misguided to uninformed to hilariously inept. YouTube has basically taken the neutered position of “It is impossible to leave alone, so we will kick you out!”, as the door is already swinging shut with his departure.
It is concerning to see how many people are applauding this platform’s move. We once more see people cheering for the suppression of this culture. It has been a regular feature, when videos, comments, and accounts are taken down because of comments that deviate from the approved narratives in the media. Somehow, the press sees no contradiction that they are supporting the restrictions on free expression — something that should be the bedrock of their profession. Although it will be argued that this was a private business that took these steps and not the government’s, it is alarming that so many feel comfortable with silencing their voices.
This decision is funny and misguided cheering. Bongino also has another outlet, which is far bigger than his primary one. Bongino has just shy of 880,000 YouTube followers. He has just shy of 2 million fans on Rumble where he was well-known and had already begun to concentrate his efforts.
The hilarious videos are quite funny @YouTube communists desperately try to save face after we told them to go f%^* themselves.
They’re claiming we “tried to evade suspension.” Really? By posting a final video LITERALLY titled “Why I’m Leaving YouTube”? 🤦🤦— Bongino Report (@BonginoReport) January 26, 2022
The approach to this, though, is not one of alarm – although yes, there is concern over the silencing of any voices by any overriding entity. Positively, the fact that those who dictate the story have often been shown to be completely wrong is a positive sign. News items reporting on people being punished or deplatformed months back are reported today as correct.
Journalists are fine with contradictions to previous reports or positions. Voices like Bongino and Joe Rogan are being targeted for quoting or following the advice of medical professionals, as directed, while pundits are perfectly comfortable telling us to follow Big Bird’s advice on vaccines. This is the best way to go. Not to be afraid of the consequences.
