You Can Smell the Fear as Terry McAuliffe Doubles Down on Lie About COVID and Children – Opinion

Terry McAuliffe is terrified he’s going to lose Monday’s election. This was my message last night as I watched him dance awkwardly onstage while Joe Biden floated around in his old age.

Less than a month after admitting the president isn’t popular in Virginia, a desperate McAuliffe has decided to go with a “kitchen sink” strategy. This was McAuliffe’s only option, and it meant that he would continue to spread a widely disproven lie concerning children and COVID-19. McAuliffe’s falsehood had been checked factually in the days preceding. His claim was repeated to an indifferent rally crowd on last night.

When you are staring defeat in the face, I guess there’s no incentive to not throw honesty to the wind. McAuliffe made the false claim multiple times, and even was contacted by The Washington Post in an attempt to clarify. He did the same thing last night, but despite that.

The real numbers are: 1,142 is equal to none. Due to COVID-19, 952 children aged under 17 have died in hospital during the pandemic. McAuliffe falsely claimed that 1,142 children were being treated at the moment, but there actually were 35. McAuliffe has also claimed 8,000 cases on days when there were only 2,000. In other words, no matter how you slice it, McAuliffe’s claims can not be squared with reality.

But again, that shows the fear he’s operating under. When you can’t beat Glenn Youngkin on the issues and you can’t take him down by trying to link him to Donald Trump, the last resort is COVID hysteria. This and claims of voter suppression. McAuliffe is banking on left-leaning individuals responding to the fear he’s pushing, not realizing that nothing he’s saying is even true. That’s probably not a bad bet if his goal is to juice NOVA Democrat turnout in a year that the Republican seems to otherwise have all the enthusiasm.

It will be soon clear whether this new strategy will prove successful or not. The cake may already be baked, with early voting making up a significant portion of the ballots cast next week. Can Youngkin win with enough momentum? I don’t know, but I do know that McAuliffe has been thoroughly exposed, and unless he comes close to Biden’s 2020 margin, the results of this election will spell bad news for Democrats going forward.
