One of the great lies we’ve heard from Joe Biden’s fluffers is the tale of glory where Biden rallies the Free World to the defense of Ukraine and something-something happens, and everything turns out great. This is a complete lie.
Joe Biden, his men and his associates ignored the Russian troop buildup at the Ukraine border that had begun a year earlier. As the crisis intensified, the Biden junta did things which a) made it look ridiculous (for instance, the repeated predictions over more than a month that Russia was invading Ukraine imminently) and b) seemed calculated to force Putin to attack Ukraine as a face-saving exercise (read Why Today’s Austin-Milley Press Conference Convinces Me That Joe Biden Wants Conflict With Russia in Ukraine). When Putin declared the Ukrainian territories of Donetsk and Luhansk to be independent, Biden’s reaction was so weak that it seemed calculated to encourage Putin to do more, see Potemkin Sanctions by a Potemkin President; One of the Banks Sanctioned by Biden Was Sanctioned in 2014.
Yesterday, during his bumbling press conference on Thursday, Biden was asked two very specific questions (see Biden’s Sanctions Package Seems Calculated to Avoid Damaging Russia’s Economy, So Why Bother?). First, he was asked why he did not ban sanctioned Russian banks from the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT); this would limit their ability to operate anywhere where Biden’s sanctions only prevent the Russian banks from working with American banks. Second, he was asked why Putin, himself, wasn’t sanctioned. The transcript from Thursday’s press conference shows this.
Q Mr. President, you didn’t mention SWIFT in your sanctions that you announced. Is there a reason why the U.S. isn’t doing that? Are there differences among Allies about SWIFT? Should Russia be permitted to participate in it?
THE PRESIDENT: The sanctions that we have proposed on all their banks is of equal consequence — maybe more consequence than SWIFT — number one.
It is an option. But right now, that’s not the position that the rest of Europe wishes to take.
Biden here blames allies for failing to boot sanctioned Russian banks out of SWIFT. His minions later pointed out that Italy and Germany were the ones who opposed this proposal. Today, Italy as well as Germany have stated that they are open to allowing SWIFT banks to continue operating.
Contact my Italian counterpart @luigidimaio. Ukraine is in our total solidarity I was assured by my colleague that Italy would support the ban on Russia using SWIFT.

Macron joined Germany to support the cutting of Russia from Swift. Brave new World And god, I don’t like it. https://t.co/eNxGK29D0r

Mind you, there was never any official statement of opposition in the first place, which leads one to believe this is quintessential Ron-Klain-lying-to-make-Biden-look-good bullsh**.
Second: If Putin really was Hitler™, didn’t Biden sanction him personally. Although I don’t think Putin is able to access a large amount of US resources, putting his stink on him seems better than any other thing this group of assclowns has come up with. Yesterday, Biden was asked that question and this is the result.
Q Recently, you said that the big countries cannot be trusted when dealing with such matters. Recent statements by you indicated that sanctions against President Putin were on the horizon. Is that a step that you’re prepared to take? And if not —
THE PRESIDENT: It’s not a bluff; it’s on the table.
Putin being sanctioned
THE PRESIDENT :
Q Would you sanction him now, sir. Is it not possible to sanction him immediately, sir.
Q Mr. President —
Biden did not answer the question.
As bizarre as it seems, now the EU has stepped up to do what Biden couldn’t bring himself to order.
This afternoon, I encouraged @NATOLeaders must immediately take action against SWIFT in order to cause maximum suffering to President Putin’s regime.
On top of the already announced sanctions, the UK will soon impose sanctions on Putin and Sergey Lavrov. pic.twitter.com/VWEwGyPH5j

AP: According to Latvia’s foreign ministry, the European Union agreed to block Russian President Vladimir Putin’s assets and Sergey Lavrov’s Foreign Minister.

Now Biden is jumping on the mewling, “me, too; me, too” and trying to get on the bandwagon.

The whole thing was shameful, from beginning to end. The Biden junta has never had anything resembling a diplomatic strategy to defuse the dog’s breakfast created by George W. Bush and others when they invited Ukraine to join NATO. Diplomacy to deal with this crisis has been dysfunctional and unprofessional. In fact, had you set out to goad Putin into invading Ukraine, you’d have done just about everything that Biden’s “national security” team did.
