The last Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in South Dakota performed its final abortion on Monday, and will be temporarily shuttering its doors while awaiting the outcome of the Supreme Court’s decision on Dobbs v. Jackson’s Women’s Health Organization.

LifeNews reported that there was a sporadic demand for Sioux Falls Planned Parenthood abortions. Planned Parenthood sent a Minnesota doctor once a month to do the abortions.

Abortion services have stopped, at least temporarily, at South Dakota‘s sole Planned Parenthood Klinik while the organization waits for the Supreme Court of the United States to decide the fate of an Abortion rights case out of Mississippi that has the potential to overturn Roe v. Wade.
Emily Bisek was vice president, strategic communications, Planned Parenthood North Central States. Klinik in Sioux Falls is still open to patients for the other forms of care it offers, like birth control, IUDs and family planning, but not Abortion.
“We can’t in good faith schedule patients for Abortion when they would have to go out of state anyway,” Bisek told the Argus Leader on Wednesday afternoon, noting that because of many medically necessary laws already set in South DakotaIt takes several appointments to obtain an appointment Abortion.
South Dakota doesn’t ban abortions completely, but it does have restrictions and trigger law that allow pregnant women to slow down and think about the issue. Noem passed a law banning mail-order abortions in March. The law eliminates remote telemedicine support to obtain the abortion pill and restricts access to a physician for this purpose.
