Vulnerable Democrats Beg Big Daddy Biden for Some Quick Cash – Opinion

Democratic lawmakers whose political positions are in jeopardy have issued a desperate plea for help from President Joe Biden as they seek to remain in voters’ good graces. Breitbart News reports that: “Eleven vulnerable House Democrats on Thursday begged President Biden for more pandemic relief funds to galvanize midterm constituents.”

With Republicans in the lead over Democrats nationwide, Democrats are requesting more cash from Biden’s administration for their local districts. The extent to which these companies have political allied themselves or fought for the reelection of lawmakers is not known.

Biden was sent a letter by the lawmakers outlining the problems their constituents face. “For restaurants, live event venues, travel companies, gyms, and other small businesses centered on in-person gatherings, the massive increase in COVID-19 cases over the past two months has led to a large decline in consumer demand,” they wrote.

“As Members with strongly bipartisan districts,” the lawmakers continued, “we made commitments to our constituents to provide the relief that our communities needed and we intend to keep those promises.”

Among the lawmakers who signed the letter were Reps. Mikie Sherrill (D-NJ), Cindy Axne (D-IA), Angie Craig (D-MN), Sharice Davids (D-KA), Steven Horsford (D-NV), Andy Kim (D-NJ), Susie Lee (D-NV), Tom O’Halleran (D-AZ), Abigail Spanberger (D-VA), Dina Titus (D-NV), and Susan Wild (D-PA).

Despite needing Biden’s assistance, many Democrats have distanced themselves from him because of his atrocious approval ratings. Others have been taken to reverse the trend. Democratic governors have been lifting mask requirements in schools and public places across the country. The Democrats seem to realize that the nation is heading for a post COVID society and that forcing people into masks is not smarter than letting Dr. Fauci watch your dog.

However, even if the president opens the purse strings, it is unlikely to do much to improve the Democrats’ chances for success in the upcoming midterm elections. The Republicans know this and are exploiting it to their disadvantage. GOP legislators and the conservative media continue to highlight that Democrats in Congress are doing very little. President Biden’s horrific approval ratings also provide some compelling fodder. The left’s failure to address crime in a meaningful way has become a source of concern as well.

At this point, Democrats are being forced to employ a “throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks” strategy, so these types of moves are to be expected. But the question remains: Will they be able to change things? Are their fates set in stone?
