UH-OH: Seven of Colbert’s People Arrested for Unlawful Entry of House Office Building

Fox News reports that a number of CBS staffers were arrested by the U.S. Capitol Police on Friday night. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert And were charged for unlawful entry They allegedly entered an illegal House Office Building in the early hours of Thursday night.

The group of seven people were arrested in the Longworth House Office Building after being escorted out of the Jan. 6 committee hearing earlier in the day because they did not have proper press credentials, according to sources.

After the Capitol was closed for public viewing, the same group returned later Thursday night. Fox News reports that the men took photos and videos around two Republican congressional members, Kevin McCarthy R-Calif., and Lauren Boebert R-Colo…

They were arrested and accused of illegal entry at the House Office Buildings after-hours.

Keep in mind that those who entered the Capitol only on January 6th were charged with entering a restricted area or “parading”. Some have spent several weeks behind bars. 

Fox News reported Colbert’s team “conducted interviews earlier on Thursday with members of the Jan. 6 Committee, including Reps. Adam Schiff, D-Calif. and Stephanie Murphy, D-Fla. Also, they interviewed Rep. Jake Auchincloss from Massachusetts. Capitol Police noticed members of Colbert’s crew at Jan. 6 Committee Area.

They were eventually allowed back into the Longworth House Office Building by an aide to Auchincloss at around 4 p.m. and left unattended for several more hours. Fox News has learned that the source claimed the aide was convinced the group would need more interviews. “The group seemed to wander the House Office Buildings while they were not there for many hours.”

Fox News was informed by the U.S. Capitol Police that it had received a report about a disturbance at Longworth House Office Building on Thursday, August 8.

A spokesman for CBS said “Triumph the Insult Comic Dog” (that’s Robert Smigel) was on-site at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday and Thursday to record interviews for a comedy segment on behalf of The Late Show He stated that the interviews had been authorized by congressional aides and were prearranged.

“On Wednesday, June 15 and Thursday, June 16, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog was on-site at the Capitol with a production team to record interviews for a comedy segment on behalf of ‘The Late Show.’ Their interviews at the Capitol were authorized and pre-arranged through Congressional aides of the members interviewed,” the spokesperson said. “After leaving the members’ offices on their last interview of the day, the production team stayed to film stand-ups and other final comedy elements in the halls when they were detained by Capitol Police.”

This is incredibly ironic that Democrats went after Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA) for just having guests at the complex taking pictures of the artwork. The police did not arrest any of the people in this way, and they said that nothing was unusual about them. Also, this is the anniversary of Watergate’s break-in. Another irony in ironies.
