Tucson HS Drag Show Promoter Arrested for Sex With Student

Was that “groomer” you heard? A high school teacher that organized a drag show in the Tuscon Unified School District (TUSD) in Arizona has been arrested for being sexually involved with a minor.

According to AZ Free News, Zobella Brazil Vinik, a 29-year-old woman, and her ex-wife allowed an unnamed 15-year-old minor to live with them in their residence, where the ex-wife discovered Vinik’s underwear under the minor’s pillow. The police also obtained telephone records that revealed intimate conversations between Vinik, the minor and her.

It was to have been held on May 7th, two days after Vinik had been placed on administrative leave. The high school began an investigation and Vinik turned herself in to the police four days later.

TUSC spokesperson Karla Escamilla declined to comment on the arrest, but provided this statement from TUSD Superintendent Gabriel Trujillo:

The Tucson Police Department Sexual Assault Unit conducted a thorough investigation on Zobella Brazil VInik, a counselor at Tucson High Magnet School. An alleged interracial relationship was established between the counselor, and Tucson High student.

In collaboration with Tucson High, the District administration quickly removed the counselor from campus and placed her on administrative leaves. Our School Safety Department began an extensive investigation into the incident immediately. This is ongoing.

Ms. Vinik, who was employed by the Tucson Unified Schools District, resigned on Thursday, May 5, 2022. In the ongoing investigation, Tucson Police Department will continue to work with Tucson Unified School district administration. As our top priority, our administration will not forget about the safety and health of our students.

There’s no way to sugar coat this: it is disgusting and gross on so many levels and further amplifies the need to get groomers like Vinik out of our public school system.
