According to ’90s high school movies, cheerleading is a drama den. The film crew went cinematically sour at an upcoming cheer camp in Texas.
Ranger College’s squad was having its on-campus training when a scuffle commenced. One cheerleader was reportedly choked by another in the chaos.
Averie Chanel Medlock was charged with the crime. The athlete was expelled from camp in the wake of the incident.
Averie is biologically a male. However, the 25-year old Averie identifies himself as a female. This particular play prominently, according to the New York Post.
[P]olice responded to a dispute between the members of the team, according to Facebook posts from team members. Medlock says that Medlock’s teammate made racist comments and transphobic statements before the altercation. A cell phone video showed cheerleaders hiding from Medlock.
Averie, who was accused of doing crotchish deeds in relation to the above-mentioned phobia, was also charged.
The chaos was captured by the student incriminated on Facebook:
“Well, guys, I’m officially retired as a cheerleader as of last night at 5:30 a.m. A girl on the team was being very disrespectful and told me I am a MAN with a PENIS and that [guys] should not be on the team.”
The next step was to defend yourself; however, parents were informed.
“I stood up for myself, and she called her mom and dad because she was scared because I [stood]I will stand up for myself. Her father said, ‘She still has testosterone and a penis, and I will kill anyone who comes after my daughter.’”
That “[coming] after” part was purportedly perilous: Averie allegedly strangled the girl — identified as Karleigh — ’til she blacked out.
Karleigh’s dad, Mike Jones, drove immediately to the school. And now he’s demanding cops release bodycam and CCTV footage.
Mike also took to Facebook:
“I ask you what you would have done when receiving a phone call at 1 o’clock in the morning from your daughter stating they had locked themselves in the room with other girls. At no time did I ever say anything about your race or your gender.”
Averie claims it was a joke, but officials clearly found it absurd. Therefore, they issued an assault criminal citation.
Speaking with KTAB/KRBC, the college coed scorned condemned injustice
“They knew that I was trans. “They knew I was different than the rest of the girls. It wasn’t a big deal until her dad came up there and made a scene. I was kicked off the team for assumptions because of the dad’s assumptions of what happened.”
Watch here for a portion of the fight captured by cell phones. A summary is provided by the Daily Mail.
In the video of the altercation Medlock posted — which consists mostly of audio — the cheerleader can be heard telling off teammates behind a closed door for their transphobic comments.
She can also be heard telling the teammates that she “barely touched” Karleigh and insisting any contact was merely a joke.
“B***h, come outside then,” Medlock tells one of the women locked in the room.
“You’re a man,” the woman responds. When Medlock responds that she is a girl, the woman in the room says, “You have a penis.”
It’s been quite the month for Averie.
An ex-cheerleader, she was honored for her contribution to the team’s success on social media. Photo hashtags included “Scotti Williams — hair” and “Aaron N Teandrea Luedke — bra.”
Averie also spoke on the 16th of June Adios, deadname:
“Dmontrey Duval Satchell has been laid to rest today on June 16, 2022! Averie Chane Sattlell is now a rising star. She is female and will be addressed accordingly!
“I am now a female in the state of Texas legally! God, I am grateful for your help in making my dreams true. We are grateful for the support of everyone involved in this endeavor. [happen]. I am so blessed and honored to be living in my true self, and it feels like I’m on top of the world!”
There is no way to always be the best.
However, according to the Mail, Karleigh and his friends may really be making a joke of it:
Ranger College stated in a statement that it was opening an investigation under Title IX into the incident.
“Ranger College takes all allegations of this nature seriously and is committed to providing a learning environment free from discrimination. At this time, Ranger College is following all applicable Title IX regulations and Board Policies,” the school said.
