“Lawlessness is lawlessness. Anarchy, anarchy and anarchy are the same thing. Neither race nor color nor frustration is an excuse for either lawlessness or anarchy.” – Thurgood Marshall
Eric Adams, New York City’s incoming mayor, was last week greeted by Hawk Newsome, co-founder and leader of Black Lives Matter (BLM of Greater New York), as well as about twelve other members. Local media reports that Adams met with Hawk Newsome, a co-founder and mayor of the Black Lives Matter organization in Greater New York. Fox5 TV, Newsome threatened “riots, fire and bloodshed” if Adams reinstate the NYPD’s controversial anti-crime unit. This unit was Disbanded The riots following the death of George Floyd resulted in a record number of deaths last year. This unit is credited for decreasing violent crime in the area, and was also responsible for numerous police shootings targeting Black and Brown residents.
Adams reacted by saying he won’t stand for inflammatory language or threats. Bravo to him. Adams is an ex-police officer. Let’s hope he follows his lead. Groups that have not held office, or held responsible for their actions, are often intimidated. BLM is not the only group. The Proud Boys are also included, as well as the MAGA crowd, who stormed our Capitol Jan. 6th.
In major cities, looting and destruction seems to be the new norm. Prosecutors and judges do not appear to enforce the law so much as see the criminals as victims of society’s main ills — racism, poverty, ignorance. The real victims are law-abiding citizens and business owners.
When BLM burst on the scene, many white people, including friends of mine, engaged in virtue signaling by putting the group’s logo on their social media pages and their signs in their front yards. Large companies contributed money. Few – and virtually none in the media – delved into the philosophy and background of BLM.
It Heritage FoundationThe conservative Washington, D.C. think tank, was the one to do so. It found a 2015 interview with BLM leaders Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors and Opal Tometi in which Cullors said, “Myself and Alicia in particular are trained organizers. We are trained Marxists.” That same year, reported Heritage, “Tometi was hobnobbing with Venezuela’s Marxist dictator Nicolas Maduro of whose regime she wrote: ‘In these last 17 years, we have witnessed the Bolivarian Revolution champion participatory democracy and construct a fair, transparent election system recognized as among the best in the world.’”
Venezuelans that have fled their country are likely to disagree. Others, who stay, struggle to get basic necessities, such as medicine and food.
Adams must make good on his threats to anarchy in New York, and around the world. He should declare that people who break the law will face arrest and jail. They will have to repay businesses many times the amount of property they destroyed or stole. Their payments to the government will be reduced until they pay off their debt. Private citizens and business owners should have the ability to own guns. Anyone attempting to violate the law must be warned that anyone who threatens someone with a firearm will face legal consequences if the person shoots in self defense.
Accepting criminals is a recipe for more lawlessness. Be aware Videos There are many people who loot shops in San Francisco, with no reprisals. You can watch the video. Video The Capitol Riot. The anti-police sentiment makes it difficult for police to act. Shopowners are also at risk. Many of our cities are ruled by criminals. District attorneys and judges who are leftist should be elected out of office.
Eric Adams shouldn’t be bullied. Thurgood Marshall likely would have stood by him.
