On Sunday morning’s Meet the Press, anchor Chuck Todd and his panelists were clearly concerned about some recent polling that shows voters under 35 years old, and Hispanic voters are starting to “peel away” from Joe Biden and the Democrat Party, which is disastrous news for congressional Democrats this November.
This was something Todd was conscious of throughout the segment. “There’s one demographic group I want to single out, and it’s voters under 35,”Todd noted that they were so different. “have never experienced inflation in their lifetime.”
“Look at these numbers here,”Todd spoke despondently before listing the key numbers. “Right now 82 percent of the public thinks the economy is only fair or poor. Adults under thirty five, it’s 87 percent.”
Todd correctly pointed out that people under 35 are the most likely to vote in these elections. “used to life when, oh, there is a new gadget out? In six months, it won’t be any more expensive, and will actually cost less. This is a whole different world.”
PBS NewsHourAmna Nawaz, chief correspondent for the Democratic Party, explains how crucial the vote of under 35 years old is to Democrats. “you’re talking about one of the key groups that not only help Democrats win back control of Congress, propel Biden into the White House.”
This is why it’s so important to note that if Democrats lose the key demographic, this would have a devastating effect on their chances of winning elections.
To get to the next bad polling number, Todd explained how Nevada was ranked. “Democratic incumbent Steve Sisolak, [and]Behind were both Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (Democratic incumbent) [and] trailing their potential Republican opponents.”
Todd pointed out that although it was early days, there are still many possibilities for things to change. “when you look at the Nevada electorate, this is pieces of the coalition you see fraying away from Biden.” Continuing his analysis, Todd observed: “Hispanic voters starting to peel away a little bit, working class, non-college-educated whites. This is a problem and Nevada may be the most acute.”
Washington PostRuth Marcus was the deputy editor for the editorial pages. “Democrats are facing a very dire situation in November.” Because “72 percent of Nevadans rated economic conditions fair or poor. This state has voted four times consecutively for Democratic candidate, the Democratic presidential candidate. It’s a state that Biden won.”
Marcus saved the worst news for the last according to her “most scary and perhaps most ominous is the peeling off of Hispanic voters in Nevada.” Among hispanic voters, Biden’s approval rating went from “73 percent a year ago to 52 percent now.”
“You just read that if you’re a Democratic candidate or pollster, you read it and gulp”Sie said.

NBC’s Meet the Press

Eastern at 11:07 a.m.CHUCK TODD: Amna, there’s one demographic group I want to single out, and it’s voters under 35.
AMNA NAWAZ: Yes!
TODD: Who has never seen inflation in their life? People are used to living in the same way they do every day. It will not be more costly, but it will cost less in six months. The world is completely new. Look at these numbers here, they think over–by a five point margin greater. 82% of people think that the economy is either fair or very poor. Adults under thirty five, it’s 87 percent. Do you wish to purchase your first house? Your interest rates are higher than those of your parents, and you’re also paying more for food and gas. This is a major part of Dem coalition.
NAWAZ : This is not a great idea. It’s not great. It’s one of those key groups that help Democrats win back Congress and propel Biden into office. They will also be playing in greater numbers in the next midterms. And the economy is top of mind. When we talk about the economy, let’s be specific, we’re talking about inflation, we’re talking about cost of living. The White House will again point out that unemployment is at an all-time low in 17 states and below 3 percent in twenty states. This means wage growth has been at its current rate. The fact is that wages are not growing at the same rate as the cost of living. Right? This generation was forced to go out in the world and faced two financial crises. Right? There is a global financial crisis and then there’s the financial crisis related to the pandemic. It doesn’t get better. You can go back at least a year and see that expectations were very high. The pandemic was coming to an end, there were new vaccines, so things could get better. The government has slashed their wages, forced them into underemployment or unemployment and made them pessimistic about what the future holds.
TODD: And Ruth when America’s economy gets a cold, Nevada gets the flu. Because two of the Nevada incumbents (Democratic incumbent Steve Sisolak and Democratic incumbent Senator Catherine Cortez Masto) were far behind their Republican counterparts, I wanted to display these numbers. There’s still some primaries, still a lot of work to do there, but when you look at the Nevada electorate, this is pieces of the coalition you see fraying away from Biden. Hispanic voters starting to peel away a little bit, working class, non-college-educated whites. Nevada could be the hardest hit.
ROTHMARCUS: Nevada’s crisis is very serious and, as John Anzalone stated, Democrats face a difficult situation in November. Let’s just say that more than 7/10 Nevadans considered their economic condition fair or poor. The state has supported the Democratic candidate for four consecutive elections, and for the Democratic president candidate. Biden won this state. It is currently below the overall rating. This is now at 35 percent. Most concerning and most worrying is Nevada’s revocation of Hispanic Nevadan voters. The decline in approval ratings from 73 percent last year to 52 percent today. If you are a Democratic pollster or candidate, this is what you just read. Is there something else going on?
