The January 6th hearings seem to be going well in the eyes of mainstream media and online Democrats. It doesn’t matter that no actual evidence of an organized coup has been presented. It doesn’t matter that nothing has been shown connecting Donald Trump to the Capitol breach. The orange man is bad, and Liz Cheney said he’s bad during primetime, so the hearings are a success.
Except they aren’t a success. Hyped as a way to send Trump to jail, the hearings have instead offered more of the same emoting we’ve been hearing for a year and a half. That’s left the committee scrambling to find anything that can turn things around, and with one postponement already on the books, the hearings are now being pushed off until after the July 4th recess.
THOMPSON told us that the committee may add additional hearings — beyond the two more that were initially expected — based on its review of the evidence.

They believe you’re stupid. Is it true that anyone believes they’re putting off these hearings due to a miraculous new stream of evidence which will provide the smoking gun? Or that they are adding more hearings because they couldn’t have possibly foreseen how much there is to cover?
This has been done for months. But now, right before the clock strikes midnight, they are reassessing because they’ve just got too much darn evidence to handle.
Let’s face it, nobody believes this, and everyone shouldn’t believe that. It’s a pathetic way to brush off the fact that these hearings are falling apart and that the committee is now feeling the pressure to come up with anything that can drag things out. The committee began the process promising direct evidence of Trump’s involvement in unrest that occurred on January 6, 2017. All they’ve delivered are delays, confusion, and mumblings about documentary videos.
Why would anyone hold hearings in this manner? Usually, hearings occur over the course of days in a concise manner in order to keep the public’s attention. The January 6th committee’s attempt to prolong this process over several months shows that its members are unprepared and weak, making it difficult for them to fulfill their promises. People will not be as engaged if the process is prolonged. Wasn’t the goal to persuade people?
It makes no sense. Was the committee really thinking they could just shout Trump off the national stage and it would be over? Is this just a game to make sure that the story is covered until election day in order to save Democrats from the next red wave? Both of these calculations are absurd. Trump isn’t going anywhere, and as to the election, these hearings have done nothing but make Democrats appear completely out of touch. After all, who cares about a rehash of January 6th when gas is $5 a gallon and they can’t afford groceries?
All of this is strategically and tactically absurd. Democrats played too safe, leading to the belief that Trump’s case will result in criminal charges. When that doesn’t happen, it will only depress the Democrat base more heading into the mid-terms. Meanwhile, Liz Cheney’s political career is about to end, and for what? To be able to lock arms with Nancy Pelosi, before she heads over for MSNBC’s hits. It was for her good, and I am glad it was.
