The Highland Park Shooter Obtained His Gun Legally

America was again subject to another mass shooting. This time it happened in Highland Park, Illinois. The atrocity is made more severe by the fact that it took place on Independence Day, just weeks after mass shootings occurred in Buffalo, New York and Uvalde (Texas). Conversations are also centered on guns, despite the fact that no efforts have been made to identify the gunman’s political affiliation. The case has provided additional details that may give insight into the ways the progressive anti gunner crowd might exploit this tragedy.

It didn’t take long for leftists to push for additional gun restrictions, even though Congress passed several anti-gun measures following the Uvalde school massacre. Failed Democratic congressional candidate Nina Turner went on a tear on Twitter, calling for a ban on “assault weapons” and claiming the law passed weeks ago was not sufficient. Twitter:

Killed in today’s mass shooting in Highland Park was a teacher at a Jewish school & another was a Mexican national—both celebrating this country, both killed in a uniquely American way.

Our legislators must step up, the bipartisan bill wasn’t enough.

Interdiction of assault weapons

Rep. Adam Schiff, D-CA took a short break from the Democratic House Select Jan. 6. Witch huntingTo get involved, the committee:

It’s heartbreaking to spend the Fourth of July mourning yet another American tragedy:

Highland Park was the scene of a deadly shooting rampage.

Our streets are not the place for weapons of war. None.

It’s long past time to ban assault rifles — before tragedy strikes again.

U.S. Jewish Democrats also called for a ban on supposed “assault weapons,” asking followers to push Congress to reinstitute the ban:

Highland Park’s assailant used a powerful rifle to inflict injury and death on six people.

They are not meant to be used by civilians. We ask that Congress authorizes the reauthorization of the assault weapon ban.

During an appearance on NBC’s “Today Show,” Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering shed some more light on the incident, noting that the rifle used to attack participants in the Fourth of July parade was “legally obtained.” She said: “This tragedy never should have arrived on our doorsteps and as a small town, everybody knows somebody that was affected by this directly.”

Rotering also revealed the fact that she had been the alleged shooter’s cub scout leader when he was a child.

“It’s one of those things where you step back, and you say ‘What happened?’” she said. “How did somebody become this angry, this hateful to then take it out on innocent people?”

Mayor said that she was not sure where the rifle originated, but the gunman purchased it legally. She then argued that the gunman had legally purchased the rifle.

“I think at some point the nation needs to have a conversation about these weekly events involving the murder of dozens of people with legally-obtained guns,” Rotering insisted. “If that is what our laws stand for, then I think we need to re-examine the laws.”

That is what matters most. According to Illinois law, the 22-year-old alleged shooter can legally possess both handguns and rifles in Illinois. Red flag laws have been enacted by the state, which were ineffective when it came down to stopping the shooter from executing this act. Even further, the city already has a prohibition on “assault weapons,” which none of the anti-gunners speaking out in the wake of this tragedy has bothered to define.

These details are being used by the anti-gunner group to claim that because these measures failed, America should adopt even more MoreOnerous gun restrictions are put in place to restrict the ability of law-abiding citizens to purchase firearms. Their solution to every problem is always more government involvement, isn’t it? It’s the same here.

Already, they claim that bipartisan legislation passed just weeks ago was not sufficient and are using the incident to prove the point. They also argue that it is necessary to make gun ownership and carrying more difficult for people to be responsible. Now that the Supreme Court has destroyed New York’s ridiculous gun licensing scheme and done away with “may issue” states, the anti-gun lobby is becoming even more aggressive in their bid to curtail gun ownership. It begs the question: Is America going to succumb?
