TERROR: Nets Didn’t Care About Abortion Violence Back Then Either

The Supreme Court on Friday released a historic abortion ruling overturning Roe vs. Wade. Journalists were shocked and horrified. As we’ve exposed in a NewsBusters study on Thursday, however, the networks and MSNBC REFUSED to say the name of the radical pro-abortion terrorists Jane’s Revenge. This is just one example of the long-standing pattern liberal networks have used to conceal violence against conservatives.

The Media Research Center in 1998 re-released an updated study entitled “Roe’s Warriors: The Media’s Pro-Abortion Bias.” Here’s just a few of the examples of violence against pro-lifers that went ignored in the 1990s.

Daniel Adam Mahoney, a pro-abortion activist was indicted as the first under the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act. He was arrested on April 11, 1995. Prosecutors allege Mathison called First Way crisis pregnancy center, Wenatchee in Washington on January 2, 1995. He threatened to murder workers there. Prosecutors also claimed Mathison called First Way in Wenatchee, Washington on January 2, 1995 and threatened to kill workers. Reporters David Johnston and Associated Press reported this on April 11th, 1995. AP followed this up on April 12, 1995 with a dispatch where abortion supporters supported Mathison’s indictment in accordance to FACE. AP reported that Mathison pled guilty on June 7, 1995. However, the network and none of the outlets that reported on the story in their print samples did not report the story.

Patricia Baird Windle, who founded the Aware Clinic For Women in Melbourne (Florida), one of Dr. David Gunn’s workplaces, also owned it. Windle was frequently mentioned in news reports, often referring to extremist tactics by the other side. We found 30 stories about Windle in our sample of print media. Windle’s March 30th 1995 arrest for the improper display of a dangerous weapon was not covered by any news media. Windle pointed a gun at three Brevard County Public Works employees as they were driving along Windle’s driveway to examine recent roadwork. Windle pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced without media attention to six-month probation and gun safety training.

Ernest Robertson Jr. was picking his wife up at an Abortion Clinic in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on October 6, 1994. Robertson, after arguing with the protester at Baton Rouge’s abortion clinic on October 6, 1994, pulled out his 9-mm gun and fired once. Robertson was arrested for attempted second-degree killing. The Robertson story was briefly reported in The New York Times and CNN.

Alice Hand, a Catholic school and church in Suffern in New York was threatened by at least three telephone calls in January 1995. Hand stated that she believed anti-abortion violence was due in part to the Catholic church. The New York Times carried a 288 word story, page B5, on January 17, 1995. AP and all other magazines ran nothing.

Gainesville (Florida), Right to Life offices were attacked with Molotov cocktails on February 13, 1993. It was less than a month prior to the David Gunn killing, according to the Orlando Sentinel. The incident was not reported by AP or other media outlets.

This shocking statistic is worth a glance:

The three shootings of abortionists attracted more than 1,100 news stories from three newspapers and the Associated Press. But seven cases of harassment or violence by abortion advocates got just six stories. Six examples of abortionists who caused or contributed to the disfigurement or death of women drew 53 stories.

When it comes to the corrupt media’s complete interest in pro-abortion terror: The more things change, the more they stay the same.
