Telemundo anchor Nacho Lozano was fine covering the recent Axios/Ipsos/Telemundo poll of Hispanics in the United States, until he realized it also polled abortion.
Watch as Lozano gets into the nuances of the community and showcases the finding of opposition to a southern border wall, only to get testy when the abortion question didn’t yield a result in line with his opinions:
NACHO LOZANO Although the overwhelming majority in our community is against the wall, it’s clear that there are differences when you look into the data.
ARANXTA LOIZAGA – For instance, 73 per cent of Mexican-American Latinos don’t agree with the border wall
LOZANO – It’s notable that 54% respondents from Cuba are in favor of it.
…
There is the QR code for you to analyze the results, in the case of the wall, and this isn’t something that we’re saying, it is something that has been proven by history. It is not true that walls work. Contrarily, the southern border makes human trafficking much more costly. Ara also believes that women’s rights should be protected and not ignored.
While Telemundo focused on the issue of immigration, via THE wall, immigration occupies the last place in a list of six top concerns of Latino/Hispanic Americans and even then, the border question is deceptively presented. While respondents were asked questions about any other topic, they only discussed a possible wall that would encompass the whole southern border. It is intended to portray Hispanics in a negative light about border security. “This isn’t something that we’re saying, it is something that has been proven by history. Lozano continued, “Walls don’t work.” It makes human trafficking much more costly, however, because of the southern border.
Lozano then moves on to abortion which respondents believed should be legal (40/36). Lozano then launches a defense of abortion. “And regarding the question of Women’s Rights Ara they should be respected and not consulted.” In other words- shut up and do as Planned Parenthood says without asking any questions. Here’s a reminder to you that abortion ranks second in the Latino network’s advocacy list after immigration.
