ABC’s Capitol Hill correspondent Rachel Scott continued her harassment of Republican Senators Thursday in the network’s apparent attempt to bully enough Senators into supporting the Democrat’s gun control agenda, this time with help from Sky News reporter Mark Stone. Two Republican senators managed to reverse the roles of Scott and Stone.
Scott went right into propaganda mode during ABC World News Tonight’s segment on the renewed debate over gun control in light of the tragic shooting in Uvalde, Texas (gun laws that wouldn’t have prevented the gunman from acquiring his weapons in the first place).
“Polls show more than 80 percent of Americans support those policies. But it’s far from clear that they can get the ten Republican votes needed” Scott whined before cutting to tape of her chasing after Senator Susan Collins (R-ME).
Scott approached Collins to find out if Collins has the 60 votes required to repeal the filibuster since Joe Manchin, West Virginia Democratic senator from West Virginia was insistent on his refusal to vote to do so.
Collins responded that “it’s a little bit early to try to predict the outcome.”
In her typical smug and condescending tone, Scott announced that “for some Republicans, any talk of reform involving guns is a nonstarter.”
During her harassment tour, Scott caught up with Senator Roger Wicker (R-MS) to lecture him that the “majority of Americans support some type of action when it comes to gun reform’ and asked if the Republican Party is wrong on gun control.
Wicker did not take her arrogant lectures lying down (click “expand” to read):
SEN. ROGERWICKER: It’s important to examine what has worked and failed. So I’m not—
SCOTT
WICKER: Ma’am—
SCOTT: Must be present.
WICKER: You have a point. I am happy to help you.
SCOTT: It’s the point of view of the American people, sir.
Scott then broadcast footage showing Sky News’ foreign correspondent Mark Stone trying to discuss gun control with Ted Cruz, Texas Senator. (spoiler alert! Expand to read
MARK STONE: When is the right time to change gun laws?
SEN. Ted Cruz: It’s not difficult to get into politics.
STONE: It’s crucial. It is at the root of the matter.
CRUZ: It’s where media love to be.
STONE: It’s not. It’s where many of the people we’ve talked to here like to go.
CRUZ – The media and Democrats have made proposals that will invariably lead to the murder of people by a psychopath.
STONE: A violent psychopath who’s able to get a weapon so easily. Two AR-15s for an 18-year-old.
CRUZ : These proposals by the Democrats – which would have prevented violent crime if they had been made – are not what you need to do.
NBC Nightly News, during their segment on the gun control debate, aired a portion of Stone’s exchange that wasn’t aired on ABC. Stone despicably asked Cruz why mass shootings “only happen in your country” and asked Cruz “why is this American exceptionalism so awful?”
Cruz immediately shot back “I’m sorry you think American exceptionalism is awful.”

Eastern at 6:47 p.m.RACHEL SCOTT: Background checks are now on the agenda for gun shops, gun shows and online sales. Also red flag laws that permit courts to temporarily remove guns from those deemed unsafe. These policies are supported by more than 80 percent according to polls. It’s not clear, however that these policies will win the 10 Republican votes they need. [TO SEN. SUSAN COLLINS]Is there 60 votes?
SEN. SUSAN COLLINS: It’s a little bit early to try to predict the outcome, but there’s clearly a lot of interest.
SCOTT [TO SEN. ROGER WICKER]A majority of Americans favor some form of gun reform action. Are you right? Do you think this is a mistake?

Eastern at 7:13 p.m.GARRETT HAKE: Sky News’ Mark Stone pressed Senator Ted Cruz.
SEN. Ted Cruz: The Democrats’ proposals to end violent crime are not enough.
MARK STONE – But, why is it only happening in your nation? That’s my belief. I think it is what most people believe, but they can’t understand why this happens only in America. What is the point of American exceptionalism?
CRUZ: I am sorry that you feel American exceptionalism to be so awful.
